Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Great Bargain

OK so HD DVD is dead, but there is still a great back catalouge at bargain prices, and this HD drive includes the remote which costs nearly as much as the drive alone. The picture quality is, in my opinion, better than Blu Ray with deeper and crisper blacks and colours. I don't find the noise from the Xbox an issue as it is only the HD DVD drive running when you watch a movie. Maybe again the better system lost out RIP Betamax?

Pic is good but all you can hear is the noise from the xbox 360.But If you dont mind that pump up the volume and enjoy.

Just a word of warning though.I have heard HD has given up to blu ray?

But i am still big fan of HD

Looking at the other reviews, i think it is necessary that i say this. There is reason that is so cheap is not a bargain, HD DVD has gone bust. Blu Ray won the tech war. This is unfortunate if you bought this when it was £100, but nonetheless it is important t know this. There will be no new releases on HD DVD, there is an alright back catalogue but no new films will make an appearence so this is cheap for the back catalogue but keep in mind, NO NEW RELEASES.

can i just ask does the xbox 360 actually play HD DVD, like PS3 and blu-ray, without this player or do you have to the player to watch HD DVD

Nothing new to put other than to re-iterate what some other reviewers have said: HD-DVD is dying - but this is the best time to get into and watch High Definition movies (even on your PC! Thanx to the guy who mentioned that).

The other important thing to remember is the HD-DVD is REGION FREE - meaning you can purchase HD-DVD's from Play UK -or- Play USA. (This only counts for HD-DVD's though - normal DVD's are still subject to region coding).

I use this drive with my 360 and it acts as the extra drive - so I don't have to keep taking games out if I want to watch a movie (high def or normal - it plays both). For the price on Play right now (£29.99) you can't go wrong and the titles available for it are coming down in price all the time.

A nice cheap way to experiance High Definition movies. :o)

Microsoft's Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on drive is a cheap way to start enjoying HD DVD movies. But the add-on drive has one feature that is most exciting for PC users, one that Microsoft (for whatever reason) does not like to publicize (although they do provide drivers for it) - the Xbox 360 add-on drive can actually be used as an external HD DVD drive under Windows XP.

UDF 2.5 reader drivers must be downloaded from the internet to support the drive under Windows XP. However, Windows Vista has native support for the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive making its use under Vista much more simple.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Well there's two ways to look at this.

Firstly.... Hd Dvd is a dead format. So why buy into it or...

Secondly...What a great price to get into HD movies and see what the fuss is all about. Loads of great deals on Hd Dvds right now with many top titles only £5. Why wouldn't you want to own one at these amazing prices!!

Only problem i had is that it doesn't provide 1080p 24hz.
Also regardless of whether or not Blu Ray has won there are still hundreds of HD DVD titles out there going cheap. Is the Matrix out on Blu Ray?

Ok great for HD-Movies etc. But they have stop making HD movies now and there is no point in buying one of these unless you have quite a lot of HD movies already.

That's why they are selling so cheap, because of the closure of various plants. Blu-Ray is the future, Microsoft more than likely will bring out a Blu-Ray drive for the xbox, so wait for that and don't waste money buying this.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Top quality!

I bought this during the 'free 5 HD DVDs offer' last year and I think this is brilliant! I cannot say a bad word about this peice of hardware (altho the noise from the xbox 360 can become tedious, but like a reviewer before me said - just turn up the sound on the tv and enjoy the experience of quality viewing and sound at it's very best!).

Even though Blu-Ray has won the format wars I still recommend HD players over the Blu-Ray ones, plus this does now offer the opportunity for bargain deals on already released HD titles. (Play.com themselves are selling selected HD titles for a little as £7.99 right now!)

The picture and sound are clearer than anything I've seen. This is a bargain and I totally recommend it!
