Well I suppose I do, because of the other DMC games.

But when I got this, I put it on the hardest mode, and breezed through it. You have manual and automatic modes, to be honest they both seem the same.

The cut scenes are really good though, I loved watching them they were very well animated.

But for me, if you want to play a game like this, get ninja gaiden, that one was so much better.

This is still worth giving it a little whirl though, many people do like this it just isn't for my taste in gaming. I'd recommend lending it first though, completing it. Then seeing if you want to savagly attack this game doing it on all hard modes. Because of the lack of online gaming with this, (it doesnt exist) is also a reason why I would advise lending it first.

This is pretty much the best game I've played ever. The campaign is fun, challenging and has many different aspects to it. I do agree that lot's of the game included mashing a lot of buttons to rake up some serious damage, but generally you need some skill to beat it.

The story is fun, witty and dramatic and the graphics and gameplay are just fantastic, a must buy for fans of Devil May Cry, Xbox 360 or video games alike!

Devil May Cry 4 - The newest part of the series. Old veterans coming back from the previous installment, DMC 3, will feel themselves to be oddly familiar with the game as they get their hands on it.

You start the game as the young'in Nero. While he has a completely different gameplay style compared to DMC 3's Dante, Capcom has really busted it's ass to make Nero and his moves and weapons (which there are only 3 of) fit the frantic action-packed twitchfest that the DMC series is. I would never call myself a true Devil May Cry veteran, but I was kicking ass and enjoying it after 5 minutes of starting the game with Nero, and that says a lot more than I care to type about how well Capcom has made him fit the game. I was impressed.

At one part of the game you will switch over to Dante, who still has all 4 styles (and one "hidden" style) from DMC 3; trickster for evasion and mobility, swordmaster for wailing on demons, gunslinger for long-ranged action and royal guard for... whatever it's good for. He still plays as good as ever, and is now packed with the ability to change between his styles and all his weapons on the go. This makes dealing with the different kinds of enemies a lot easier (or harder if you're not used to juggle your styles and are not willing to experiment or try out different tactics) and instead of hindering the gameplay, I felt it added another layer of complexity and awesomeness into it. And it impresses the ladies.

Understandably, the story is never an important element in games like these and isn't supposed to be, yet DMC 4 has some interesting and quirky supporting characters and events. The main story is about the olde damsel in distress-situation, but that is besides the point (which is to kick ass). While it isn't Shakespeare-quality, I found myself to be interested in how the plot turned out even though most of it was pretty obvious. The cutscenes are as cool as ever, even when they're not as over the top as in DMC 3, and there's a lot of humor involved.

The game has lots of replayability in the form of 5 difficulty settings for the main game and a few extra game modes, notably the Bloody Palace that was introduced way back in DMC 2. Newcomers to the series will be pleased to hear that the difficulty threshold was lowered with a new, easier difficulty setting, and fans of the series making a comeback can start from a higher difficulty without unlocking it.

There are some negative points to the game, though; for example, the puzzles. This game is purely about kicking ass, not jumping over spikes and watching your health get chipped away when you bail and have to start over. Sure, the secret missions are a staple of the series, but Capcom should realize that puzzles should be kept out of the main game. Also the music gets a bit repetitive, and I felt this to be a problem in DMC 3 as well.

Some people and reviews complain about camera issues, but the camera is actually another strategic element in the game. Hostiles outside your viewing angle cannot attack you, so pushing demons and what have you out of your sight and rotating the camera is actually just the thing that keeps you from dying.

All in all, Devil May Cry 4 is definitely worth the purchase for the modern man (and woman), especially if you are a fan of the series and/or games that involve kicking ass. Capcom has definitely proved that the DMC series can handle different kinds of characters and gameplay mechanics, and that has left me yearning for more. It's not a perfect game, but then again, what is? 4 stars, almost 5. It's worth the low, low price, buy it now.

good game wish i could use nero all the way thru thou.
I thought good angle new hero new powers but of course dante still kicks ass if u get the style right.

Devil May Cry 4 is amazing, everything from gameplay to graphics as well as storyline. Now the series is next-gen it looks better before, the characters, Dante and newcomer Nero have been "re-clothed" and are looking very cool.

Game longevity is good as you can play each level 5 times under different difficulties as Nero and then again backward and Dante, Playing as both characters gives you two perspectives at the story which is something that should be sold in books, I found it interesting anyway...

The controls are easy to get used too, but for me I didn't get Dante's style switching right my first go (this is my first dmc)

So yeah, anyway I reccomend this game, even for those new the series, and if you're new then I reccomend you backtrack and get impressed by the others before it... get it now while Play.com are still ripping themselves off with this at just £17.99

Having never played a DMC game I plundged into the game expecting alot but after 11 levels, the game really fizzled out.
The fighting itself requires little skill, which is a positive aspect at first, as there is nothing like the feeling as the music starts and you prepare to destroy some monsters, but it becomes tiresome using the same techniques over and over. When you finally get to play Dante, although it is a small change of pace, you're just repeating the levels you've just done.

If you're a fan of the series I'm sure this will make a worthwhile experience, but for newcomers expecting as much as I did, you may be disappointed with the older style gameplay that doesn't push the boat as far as modern classics on xbox360 have.

Visualy this game is one of the best ive seen, the cut scenes capture the truly amazing storyline of the devil may cry saga and the gameplay is once again consistently good. this game loses a star however because in my eyes Nero the new hero does not even come close to the coolness and style of Dante.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars It's no DMC3 but still good. But is DMC a tired franchise?

noodles55555 | 23/07/2008 | See all noodles55555's reviews (5) »

You've probably heard the basic concensus:
"It's DMC with nice graphics, which is great, but the second half is basically the first half in reverse, which is a disappointing."
Well the repetition isn't nearly as awful as it sounds. It's certainly not just a copy-and-paste thing, as people might tell you.

In fact, I thought the game was great the first time I played it through. It wasn't DMC3, the masterpiece of the series, but it was very good.

But if anyone is going to get their money's worth, they're in it for the harder difficulty settings and very challenging achievement list. And this is where DMC4 starts to get boring. With a game designed to be played multiple times, repetition within that game is a bad idea.

In addition to this, the style and mission ranking system has worn out its welcome. I want an action game where I have to apply lightning reactions and the five D's of dodgeball, where the combat plays more like a fighting game than a button masher, not one where the key aim is to lay into your enemies in a "stylish" way. DMC4 puts too much emphasis on the attacking and not enough on the defending (but that isn't to say the game isn't extremely difficult on the Dante Must Die difficulty). There are too many enemies that take your abuse without giving you much back. Many enemies, as a result, are just a chore to be completed.

What is also grinding is the adolescent attitude of the characters and cut scenes, which has been present since Day 1, but I really can't ignore it anymore.

So at £17.99, this is a decent purchase if you're a DMC fan. I don't want to put you off what is really a very good addition to the series. Most of my complaints are applicable to the series in general but they really have gotten the better of me with this fourth game. I guess I'm just tired of the series and want something different... which is why I've just ordered Ninja Gaiden II.

A good game, nothing compared to the first one but still god, up until the 11th level that is though cause after that the story just repeats itself and loses all appeal to play it...not overly challenging but the first 11 levels are very good.
