To anyone who hasn't played resident evil 1-4 don't even bother finding this review unhelpful, as you don't know the true beauty of the resident evil game series. 1 2 3 and 4 were all dark, gripping and very scary. 5 was still a good game even thought the zombies weren't scary and you was in Africa. But this.. I had it pre ordered and as soon as I put the demo on I cancelled it straight away. There are like 3 campaigns? Nice idea but.. do you keep your items and unlimited guns with each? No. The controls are fiddly and even thought the rolling about on the floor is funny and a good idea, it is not very good for combat as the zombies just stamp on you or smash a pole off your head whilst your trying to act cool. Chris' campaign is like Battlefield 3 I'll waste no more of my time typing about that horrible campaign. The zombies are not even zombies just humans infected and almost all have guns or when you shoot them spawn an annoying shield out of their arm. In the old resident evil you had zombies dragging themselves after you trying to eat you, now its just them standing still trying to shoot you... very disappointing. The item menu is fiddly and every button seems to do 100 different things. I don't even know what Jakes campaign is about and I found Leons' the most exciting out of the 3 even though as some points I couldn't see a thing due to camera angles and the darkness. The idea of becoming a zombie is the only reason I will get this when it is cheaper. Resident evil 6: Modern combat, not zombies.
I bought this game for Leon's story only, and I wasn't disappointed. I'm an old school resi fan and although I enjoyed 4 alot I really missed having proper zombies, and 5 just kept going away from what resi should have been. While both good games, they should have been like Leon's story from 6. Great stuff. Chris's story was ok. The rest of the game was not only not worth playing, it made the whole experience worse because of it's very existence. Ada's story was the only part that had decent puzzles, but it also had some of the worse bits of the game. I won't say anymore, but I would recommend it to any horror/zombie fans. There's so much rubbish in the genre, this is one of the games worth playing, despite it's flaws. Any resi fans should only play Leon's story tho. It's true that this game was not worth the hype, only 1/3 of it was good. they should have made the entire game in Leon's survival horror style and given up on the action rubbish. They managed to nail atmosphere, but alot of the gameplay mechanics felt rough and unfinished in the shooting sections. It would have felt alot like gears of war except gears was made well... shouldn't be called resident evil. But Leon's story more then makes up for capcoms infuriating mistakes. In conclusion you get both ends of the spectrum in this game, from the extremely enjoyable to the down right terrible.
Thoroughly enjoyed playing through this game! Yes it isnt the same as the earlier games, but its great nethertheless, in my opinion.
I've played all 5 previous versions on RE and this is by far the worst, I would give it 0 if I could, from the very start its just so slow and annoying, lots of set pieces and rotation of the stick, why? RE4 is by far the best version, all I can say is if they ever make RE7 I won't be buying it!
Don't listen to this person I been a resident evil fan from the start this is the best resident evil game ever and should be number 1
