Having bought this game just recently having started on MW2, then Black Ops. I wasn't sure if this would feel a bit disappointing. It wasn't. Although it doesn't all the additions made in MW2 it still is very good. The multiplayer doesn't have too many online now as you'd expect, but still good, although it doesn't quite seem as fun as MW2 and Black Ops. And there doesn't seem to be a capture the flag mode, which is what I usually play. It also seems a bit easy at times. after 3 days I only have the Veteran achievements to do, so that should provide a bigger challenge. All in all it's very good, but having played later games before I'm glad I only paid 10 pound for it.

A benchmark for future CoD titles

This was the first CoD game i bought on my 360 and 3 years on, it still resounds to me. The storyline is short, but very very entertaining. It will keep you entertained for a while, especially on Veteran. Presentation wise, it beats alot of games today. Every gun, every person, every building and every landscape looks crisp and precise. Being based in the Middle East means one can relate to it with current procedings. The gameplay is solid and runs with easy-to-use controls that wont make you look up what each button does. It runs smoothly and there is never any frame rate problems. The actions are responsive and precise and wont let you down when you need to be on your top performance.
The multiplayer WAS a breakthrough at the time. Now it feels a little outdated. However, the maps on this game are all round the BEST for any newer CoD title. Shipment, Crossfire, Bog, Crash, Overgrown:the list goes on and on. The weapons are really precise and do not recoil out of control. They are also the best weapons on any CoD title: M4A30 sniper, M4 Carbine, MP5 :D-they are all amazing. The killstreaks are 3,5 and 7 which yes is a bit dull and there is very little customisation other than the classes, but it runs to level 55 and has the best 10 prestige badges BY FAR. Earning camos through headshots is the BEST way to do it, and the gold guns are very rewarding. However, there is no host migration, which can be annoying, and unfortunately, as the game is not being kept up-to-date, many people have hacked it so advertisements appear and many people can glitch on any map (yesterday people were walking around the sky). Take this aside, there are many legit lobbies full of honest gamers.
MW is a brilliant, epic, rememberable game-end of story

The Pinnacle of the Call of Duty Franchise

| | See all deanlowdon's reviews (468)

It seems to have become very popular to criticize the Call of Duty franchise recently but it is easy to forget how influential Call of Duty 4, the first of the Modern Warfare games has been.

The single player mode took in a huge variety of locations putting the player in control of both a U.S Marine and British S.A.S. soldier fighting through an unfolding story, that while still light years behind the best movies, was full of twists and turns that kept the player guessing. At the time the game play was a huge leap forward for console shooters coupling rock solid controls with fantastic set pieces in which too test your skills. For me, although each of the sequels other than World at War were also very good, this first Modern Warfare title remains the pinnacle of the franchise in this regard.

It was of course the multi-player however that truly made Modern Warfare stand out from the crowd. I had never been interested in any on-line shooter before but spent weeks playing on this. The fantastic gunplay from the single-player was coupled with an excellent selection of maps and the all important perk system, now a standard for any on-line FPS. Allowing players the chance to customise their characters weapon set, special ability and appearance was a masterstroke and has helped make Call of Duty the most valuable franchise in gaming today.

  It's not that good

| | See all Fleurz92's reviews (14)

I've got to disagree with all of the other people that have reviewed this game. I don't understand all the hype still surrounding this game. Back in its day (2007) this was a top quality game because it took the whole call of duty multiplayer experience to another level. By todays standards, i don't think its that good. I mean, hardcore fps gamers will enjoy this, but if you're going on there as a newbie to COD games, you'll get absolutley smashed to pieces.

Bad points:
The spawning system - Those that think black ops has a bad spawn system should check this out. It literally will spawn you where the action is - regardless of the enemies that are around you. This has the worst spawn system of all the call of duty titles.
M16 - The most overpowered gun i have ever used/played against in all my life. It kills you with 1 burst 90% of the time - regardless of range. How this gun was never patched is beyond me.
Grenade spamming - Perk 1 enables players to have 3 frag grenades. Grenades are worshiped by the greek gods on this game and will kill you just as many times as the M16. Maps like wet work are always dominated by grenades. How many times have people spawned and been killed by a grenade?
Maps - Overgrown and bloc are my two most hatest maps. I cant stand them. How overgrown was ever bought back to MW2 is shocking, when there are quality maps like showdown and district that were overlooked.
M4A03 with Acog. Enough said.

Good points
I love the martydom perk. It should never have been removed in MW2. It kills campers because they cant get out of there dark corner quick enough to escape. Would love to see this come back int the next COD.
Guns - Apart from the M16 and MP5, most guns are generally balanced and enjoyable to use.
Killstreaks at 3, 5 and 7 are better than the current killstreak system.

It is a good game, frustrating and incredibly nooby, but if you can tolerate it, go for it and see if its as good as everyone else says it is.

Generally the best game I have ever played.

| | See all A1D3N000's reviews (10)

As an avid FPS gamer, I know what to expect from most games. But when I first had a go on Call of Duty 4's multiplayer I was generally blown away, it just cannot be beaten by ANY game, and that includes any of the other COD titles.
I've enjoyed this game so much over the past few years, I've now racked up a multiplayer gameplay time of 26 days! I know, I am a sad person.

  Can it get any better?

| | See all DansDeals94's reviews (22)

Well ... Can it?
Call of Duty 4 may be a old game but in my opinion is by far the best shooter out there! The single player is fast paced and enjoyable and the multiplayer is so basic it's hard not to like it! Seriously recommended if you haven't got it already.

  Best 15 quid game

| | See all Ric0579's reviews (2)

For 15 quid this is a steal. Still one of the best if not the best shooter on 360. I have been playin this game for 3 years now and still play it all the time. No silly camping kill streaks hunters. Just all out warfare. Not amazing visuals but amazing game play and thats what counts in a game. 10 out of 10 and at 15 quid 11 out of 10.
