This game is AMAZING!!!!!!!! I am a huge hard core gamer and normally I stay away from games based on films but the genre seems to be changing lately giving us more amazing games. Avatar is not a game for children not because of violent content or anything like that but because it is more like an RPG than anything else and they may get bored. The game is actually two games across one world played from two perspectives. You start as a marine communications officer and then get transferred into your avatar to learn and experience both before deciding to play the game as one or the other. The great thing is after the training you make a choice whether or not to join the Navi (Aliens) or the Marines. Once you have made your choice you will play a HUGE EPIC game as that faction. Amazingly though the game auto saves TWO save games so when you make your choice you will have that save game and another that saved at the point where you make your choice so that you can load that save file and make the other choice and play as the other faction. The great thing is that the areas and missions are so different in each you are basically getting two huge separate games. The game also has a conquest mode that you can access at any quick travel point conquest is a mini game of sorts like a RTS (Real time strategy) or a giant game of chess in which you have an overview of the planet and all your troops and the enemies. You mobilise assets and conquer areas and basically run a war being successful then transfers rewards to your main game. This is an amazing innovation and really adds to the scope and fun of the game. The game its self is set a few weeks before the film and has a separate story line and characters. The graphics and environments are the best I have ever seen in any game Reminiscent of Fable 2 but more detailed and beautiful. The sky is the limit with this game. After passing all of the skills needed to get into the game you see that the world is separated into territories and each one has so many missions and challenges to complete. Each place has miles to explore and vehicles in which to do so and also miles vertically either on the back of a dragon thing or in a futuristic helicopter. And you can get out at any floating island and go shooting the enemies and complete challenges, the game is just that big and so beautiful looking rich and full of wildlife. In short if you like action games RPGs or RTSs you will probably love this, I have played hundreds of games on the 360 but this is the most surprising and game yet and in my opinion one of the best games out at the moment up there with Borderlands modern warfare 2 and dragon age. I suggest that you play as the Navi first and complete all the challenges in each sector before moving on to experience the whole game. Hope this helps and ENJOY oh and by the way there is great multiplayer on this game with modes like capture the flag team death match and so on.
First off the game was not based on the movie, it is based around the movie. The same world, the same species etc. Also some of the things put in the game made it into the film like some vehicles. If your looking for a mirror of the film then your not going to get it IMO.
I found it an absorbing and wonderful world to play in whether you choose to be the na'vi or humans. Each race has a different storyline by the way, so the game wont be the same for either side after you have made a choice. Also if you are human then the world is a hostile place indeed.
I have played the game through as the na'vi and i finished it in around 12 hours, im expecting to finish it in around the same time as a human. This has given me 24 hours of playing the game straight through without doing the side quests of finding a certain amount of things like A-Pods or killing a number of enemy per level. Then you also have the side game of Conquer which is a light hearted take over the world game but does have a bearing on the main single player game with added bonuses.
All in all i reckon for only 15 pound you have about 40 hours gameplay out of it and for that i cant complain.
I got this game for the Deal of the Day price of 17.99 and it is much better than I expected it to be. It is not a lazily created movie video game like the hundreds before it. This is a beautifully rendered game with a pretty deep experience. After the game's introductory chapter you will have the choice of either choosing to fight alongside Pandora's natives the Na'vi, or remain loyal to the human armies. I have not net played the human campaign, but the Na'vi campaign has been nothing but fun so far. it's a well designed action game with some RPG elements but these elements are hardly worth discussion. The graphics on this game are fantastic and the voice acting is pretty top notch.
Graphics: 4/5
controls: 4/5
story: 3/5
Online play: 4/5
replayability: 5/5
Overall score: 4/5...for less than 30 pounds this is worth picking up.
After seeing the visual spectacle of the movie i decided to try this since it was at a good price of 14.99.
It has a lot of the atmosphere from the film with recognisable sets and ships / scenery etc.
Pandora is well animated and looks lush and colourful and the mood is spot on.
Gameplay wise it is ok with pretty much go here, do this, collect that, shoot this, shoot that style mechanics...........basic but solid.
Where it is not so hot is the character models, they look shoddy..........Sigourney looks about 90!!!!!!!.........and quite basic, also the voice acting is well dodgy...........think Resident Evil 1 school of acting!!!!!!!!
Online is pretty good with a lively community at the moment and some good COD style levelling up of weapons etc.
Overall a solid but not stellar attempt at a movie tie -in.
Now you ask that is a bold statement, but after playing this it is awsome, graphics and gameplay are 10/10 and before you probably think what is this person on about, i have owned every console that has ever existed and have 142 xbox 360 games so you could say i know a thing or 2 about gaming!
