I think most people who buy this game will be disappointed, I have been a fan of the other SoF games and this is totally different. The graphics and gore are great but gameplay is just run and gun, you need to kill half a million enemies it seems to move onto the next checkpoint.. storyline is pathetically dull and predictable, there are much better shooters out there. If your looking for a bit of shoot em up simple fun then buy this game, but it really isn't anything spectacular.

           Warfare at its bloodiest!

Probably the best first person shooter of the year... as sick as it is. If you loved playin BLACK on ps2/xbox then there's no doubt you'll love this. Much like BLACK you'll see yourself reload ur gun and give the environment some real damage :P. For fans of Gears (= me!) ya got ur head poppin', body blowin' chaos which we all love.
The only campaign mode that will get you achievements is if you play it on hard; all other achievments are for acquiring on xbox live but nonetheless it is a thoroughly enjoyable game to play on xbox live. When you get shot a certain amount of times you go down (much like in gears, only on ur side) and you get a second chance to get'em back with ur pistol which is a really cool thing to add to the gameplay (only on xbox live). The enemy does indeed react to ur shots, example...S, you shoot a guy in the neck they hold there neck in agony. You shoot a guys leg off, they crawl along the ground (boy is that a freaky 1 lol). Controls are relatively simplistic and easy to get use to.

Now down to the technical side of things:

Weapons - you can carry 3 weapons at a time (2 pistols counting as 1), you have various types of Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols, Submachine guns, Light Machine Guns, Sniper Rifles and Explosives. Special Weapons - Mounted Guns and C4 charges. Grenades - Frag (Sing Pl.) Multiplayer only - Smoke, Phosphorous and Flashbang.

Xbox Live modes - Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Elimination, Team Elimination and demolition.

Pros: Intense, straight forward warfare including freakishly realistic AI and lush environments. Plenty of enemies.

Cons: hardly compares to other tactical fps i.e. Bioshock, COD4 and Halo 3

          Gameplay 9/10
          Graphics 10/10
          Replayability 7/10
          Difficulty 9/10
          Storyline 8/10
          Overall 8/10

This game is crazy if you like blood an guts and body parts flying all over the place then this is the game for you
The online play is crazy too you can modify your guns and allsorts its also got a feature when you get your leg blown off in multiplayer online you do like the last stand that you do in COD4.. Its a right laugh.
Its ace worth £29.99 all day...
Give it a blast you wont be dissapointed ;-)

Despite the poor reviews, this is a solid FPS.

Despite it's poor reviews from the main game websites, i wanted to give Soldier Of Fortune: Payback a chance and it paid off.

Even though this is classed as a budget game, SOF has superb graphics (even beating COD4 in some parts) superb gun fights and lots of gore - decapitations, shooting off limbs, it's all here - how many games these days allow you to shoot your enemies legs off?

There isn't much of a story, basically each mission requires you to run from A to B - but don't let that put you off, it's alot of fun.

Multiplayer isn't that great, but certainly not awful, compared to COD4, it's very basic. I played a few ranked matches with 10 or more people and it was lag-free.

SOF: Payback isn't going to win any awards but it's a great, solid game that i'm sure every FPS fan will enjoy,

I must warn you though, this game is very violent, definately not a game to play on Christmas day with the family watching!
