Brutal Legend tells the tale of Eddie Riggs, played by Jack Black, who is drawn back through time to a mythical world immersed in rock 'n' roll folklore; where great Metal titans once ruled and power chords rang from the countryside for all to hear. When an oppressed people request Eddie's knowledge of modern warfare, he pulls from his own experience in the only occupation he's ever had, a roadie for a Heavy Metal band. From this springs the most hellacious army man has ever seen, and thus brings this ancient world into the Age of Metal.

Action Combat: Brutal Legend's core gameplay is classic Action. From close quarter blows delivered by The Separator, Eddie's blood soaked broad axe, to ranged combat from your demon-slaying guitar named Clementine, as well as vehicular attacks supplied by your hot rod, The Deuce (aka The Druid Plow), Brutal Legend delivers deep, rewarding, fun combat that will have you throwing your "devil horns" in the air.

A World Like No Other: Inspired by some of the most iconic album art and lyrics of all-time, Brutal Legend features a streaming, open world rich with detail, from mountains made of guitar amps to big block V8 engines rising from the ground, delivering a world truly unique and unlike anything you've seen before.

Titans of Stage and Screen: Lead by Jack Black as the voice of Eddie Riggs, the epic cast of Brutal Legend features vocal talent providing by some of Metal's biggest names, including Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, Lita Ford and more.

Online Multiplayer: Take the Metal madness online in Brutal Legend's Multiplayer Mode that combines action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic that allows the player to direct their army in The Battle of the Bands, where the ultimate trophy is survival.

Upgrade Your Arsenal: Gain "Lighter Tributes" throughout the world and visit The Motorforge, where you can upgrade The Separator, Clementine and The Deuce to make them even more lethal on the battlefields.

Tim Schafer: Known for creating a level depth and humour in his characters, Tim Schafer is consistently recognised as one of the gaming industry's premier designers and has written such classics as Full Throttle, Grim Fandango and PsychoNauts.

Fully Licensed Soundtrack: Brutal Legend will feature a fully licensed soundtrack that includes some of the greatest Metal and Rock 'n' Roll songs ever assembled.

            Top 100 Games Reviewer

I too like others, decided to buy this game after reading an overwhelming amount of praise for this game and boy was I not disappointed! Its the best fun I've had out of a game for ages and I don't think I've ever properly laughed at a game until now, the cut scene are brilliantly done with Jack Black as his comedian best, and Ozzy with his one liners, you'd think I was writing a review for a film haha. Anyway the gameplay itself is rather like Overlord, but done to a better effective and a lot more fun, especially when double teaming with allies. Graphics, although not jawdropping, work in a cartoony kinda way, still looks awesome - this also helps with the framerate in the open world, I've not found any glitches or bugs. Perfect.
But if there was one NIGGLING problem it would be the introduction to the RTS element of the game. I personally am not a fan of RTS, I don't buy games like Red Alert so when this was introduced it took me by surprise and I was a bit gutted. But fortunately its not too daunting, thankfully its like RTS for beginners, still very enjoyable and quite easy to get the hang of after a while.
Overall, fantastic game, download the demo first if need be for the hack and slash element of the game, prepare yaself for the RTS element, then go buy it!

***EDIT*** I have to inform anyone who buys this game that they should not, I repeat, NOT, go back and choose individual chapters once you have completed the game, as you will lose your Save! Cannot stress this enough, I don't know whether its a mistake by the developers or what, but just don't go back and repeat a chapter!

Demo is better than the full thing

I bought this game simply because the demo had a really good flow and the game looked like it would be really good.

Sadly after you do the introduction area the game suddenly turns into a few different type of game that don't really fit together. The main stadium fighting mode really doesn't flow well and I often won battles and didn't realise why or what had really happened.

The humour also fades out and you end up going through a very shallow story doing the same things over and over. The hack and slash also becomes quite light as you are often flying around, using your vehicle as a cannon or other tasks. I never really felt too connected to what was happening.

One of the best games I have ever played

And this is a review on the demo. The entire game is awesome, and considering I am hardcore Heavy Metal fan. I love it. The gameplay is brilliant combining the offensive attacks of your Axe and the defensive attacks of your Guitar. I like the way Tim Schafer has portrayed this world nearly completely based upon Heavy Metal album covers. Jack Black gives a brilliant voice over for Eddie Riggs the main character, to allow a sarcastic personality with lots of profanity included. The gore throughout the game if enabled is awesome, like chopping peoples heads off and burning them alive with your special Guitar powers. Overall this is definitely a game to buy if you like Heavy Metal or even rock in general. 10/10.

Manages to be more then the sum of it's parts.

Without going too in depth with it, this game looks great and tugs at my heart for two loves, that being the humour of old Lucasarts adventure games and ye olde metal.

The story, characters and world are well formed and the gameplay is effortlessly fun. The side missions can get repetative for some, but overall I've not enjoyed a game this much in a long time.

The RTS style may not be to the tastes of many but the hack and slash, driving and even mild rhythm game moments entertained me and I even find the multi player mode fun too.

Has some flaws and may not appeal to some in a few areas but still a package that's more then the sum of it's parts.

             Absolute Buy!

Wow, this is an fantastic game i am truely impressed, didn't think it would be anywhere near as good. First off the graphics, i think they are really good, not ment to be super realistic but sort of a cartoon style. Then the gameplay, exellent, going round slaying demons-dosn't get much better. The story line is actually quite interesting once it gets into it. Also a feature i like is the ability to command a team into battle and the upgrade system for your car, axe ect. Then theres the best thing of all about this game...JACK BLACK! quite possibly one of the funniest men on the planet he just makes the game with all the funny lines and his voice suits the character so well. I would recomend this game to anyone who loves violence, metal, cars and of course Jack Black.
