Simply the best football game ever!

This review is based on the game demo where you get to play with France or Germany. Like many others I was a hard core Pro Evolution fan but last year Fifa 08 took over as the best football game for the first time. It had some faults like the speed and the though ball but it was very good.
So when I heard Uefa Euro 2008 was going to be released I rushed to download the demo. The first thing I noticed was that there was rain and it looked really good the graphics are truly next generation but it was when I stared playing the game that I realised the whole game was improved from Fifa 08 The game play is now really good. The keepers are no longer super human and they make mistakes but its still hard to score and that's a good thing because its much more realistic.
Unless Komami make vast improvements to the Pro Evolution series this game and the next Fifa will kill the Pro Evo series stone dead its that good. I cant wait for its release and im looking forward to Northern Ireland beating Spain, Sweden and Denmark again and who knows we might even win it.
If like me you're a football games addict you will love this game. In my opinion it's going to be the best football game ever by a mile.
I downloaded the demo for both my Xbox 360 and PS3 I did notice that it runs smother on the Xbox 360 The PS3 suffers from a little framerate slowdown at times Nothing drastic but if like me you have both I would go for the 360 version.

                     A mixed bag

EA should be commended and slapped around the face in equal measure for this release.

First off, it's half a game. Compared to FIFA's excesses team and competition-wise, you've really only got the European Championships, which is gonna get pretty dull pretty soon. It all reeks of cash-in in the usual EA fashion, because it's pretty scandelous to charge full price for what could be described as FIFA 08.1 (with nowhere near as many features).

Secondly, and this was a howler of an ommision....no 5v5 Be A Pro. Your only online options are 1v1 and.....errm, that's it. So that's most of the teams, competitions & best features ripped out....what next?

...the minnows. A truly unbelievable experience. EA, have had a good idea, but unfortunately gone ballistic with it. Playing against Azerbaijan (especially), San Marino, Andorra and any other small nation will result in probably the hardest challenge you'll find in the game. Ultra-defensive, (at times) impenitrable defenders, who seem to spring into life like Man United on the counter attack. Some matches will have you completely scratching your head.

So, you might be thinking, why 3 stars after all that. Well, in parts, the game is excellent. It really could have been the best football game out there, were it not for the above (and some bonkers gaps in difficulty levels). The gameplay and control of players is top notch. Some of the passing movements you initiate are a joy to behold and generally, it really does feel like EA are onto something here. They've paid attention to criticisms of '08's gameplay and improved on it (Konami, take note). Presentation-wise, it's top notch also. From the sharp graphics & front-end to a truly fantastic stadium sound.

It's just a shame that the ludicrous minnows, no 5v5 & limited teams & competitions hold this game back, because there's something very special in here...somewhere. Roll on FIFA 09 then.

                     Bye Bye Pro Evo !!!!

                    | | See all heavyweb's reviews (19)

After reading the reviews on play I decided to download the demo and boy how good is this !!! Simply it is the best football game ever made. It may not have the depth of Fifa and Pro due to it being a tournement game but it plays like a dream. It's got all the playability of Pro Evo but now with the graphics n realism of Fifa. I'm a big Pro evo fan but was hugely disapointed with the last instalement.

If this is what the new Fifa will be like this year then Pro Evo will be blasted out of the water as this has raised the bar BIG TIME !! Also the weather effects are superb the ball gets properly stuck in the mud and puddles when it rains heavily on poor pitches something which is new to football games.

Buy this and you will see what next gen football is all about.

Better than FIFA 08 and FIFA 08 was better than PES08

                    | | See all Grovesey's reviews (7)

Like many reviewers have already said, I was also a die hard PES fan for years. Until this year. I bought PES08 and found it so unplayable I had to try FIFA08. I thought this was so much better, a real football simulation, its not perfect but its better than PES08. Having downloaded the EURO 08 Demo, I can say that it is a lot better than FIFA 08. Its quicker gameplay, the commentary is actually better more acurate, weather conditions really good, shooting much better.
There is the downside that this game wont last very long on your gameshelf. It obviously doesnt have the depth of FIFA 08 but it has more pollished gameplay. So I will be buying this as it will be a good gap filler until FIFA 09 or even a massively revamped PES09. Also on the plus side you can take England to the finals and while the real EURO 2008 is on TV this sumemr you can be living the dream on your 360!

Gameplay 5 stars, Depth 3, Presentation 5, Graphics 4 (the likenesses are still not right!) Not 5 stars Overall because by August I wont be playing it.

                     Actually a very good game

An excellent game, it plays better than fifa 08, and the little tweaks here and there have improved it, commentary is very good and i enjoyed the captain your country mode too.
Overall i would say its the best footy game out at the moment - get it!
