Gears of War 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the 5 million-selling blockbuster action game and one of the most popular Xbox 360 games in history.

Players continue as Marcus Fenix, a reluctant war hero and leader of Delta Squad, six months after the events of "Gears of War." The last cities on Sera are sinking, swallowed by a new Locust threat from below. A massive counterattack is humanity's last hope for survival. Gears of War 2 blends a best-in-class third-person shooter with unsurpassed high-definition visuals, all layered on top of an engaging story of survival, loss and retribution. Gears of War 2 is developed by Epic Games exclusively for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system.
  • Suitable for 18 years and over. Not for sale to persons under age 18. By purchasing this product, you declare that you are 18 years of age and over.

Unparalleled gameplay: Gears of War 2 takes the award-winning gameplay of the original and improves upon it in every way. The genre-defining cover system is further refined, making the "stop and pop" gameplay more intuitive. Dynamic cover is given new meaning as downed opponents can be picked up and used as shields. The intimate violence of the battlefield is heightened when combatants engage in chainsaw duels. Destructible environments and vicious new finishing moves add to the over-the-top experience.

Jaw-dropping visuals: Gears of War 2 continues to raise the graphics bar through its breathtaking visual effects, made possible through advances in Unreal Engine 3.

Engaging experience that pulls you in and won't let go: Gears of War 2 takes deep and immersive storytelling in videogames to greater heights. Players connect with humanity's battle for survival on a personal level as they move through a story that introduces new characters and sheds light on the histories of familiar ones.

Expanded cooperative play: Team up with a friend to fight through the harrowing story of Delta Squad in the enhanced campaign mode, now featuring drop-in/drop-out gameplay, as well as individual player difficulty options. Or recruit four friends to battle in the new game mode "Horde," where you'll fight together to fend off a seemingly endless onslaught of Locust forces to attain the highest score.

Fierce and varied competitive multiplayer action: Gears of War 2 features eight distinct multiplayer modes, including the new Wingman, Guardian and Submission modes, where up to 10 players choose a side and pit their courage and battlefield mettle directly against others. In addition, multiplayer bots are available to sharpen your skills offline or to fill out your online private matches on Xbox LIVE.

          This is an outstanding game,
I would advise anyone who is into shooters to buy this game.
          - It has an amazing feel to it,
          - The graphics are breath taking,
          - Their are many modes to keep any gamer entertained.
This game is epic and well worth the price.

           Seriously Flawed

So this game has a certain amount of' hype' to say the least. I for one had been waiting with bated breath like a schoolkid. I pre-ordered and when it arrived I couldnt get the wrapper off quick enough.

Campaign mode was pretty damn good. Epic tried a little too hard to put some character into the emotionless characters from GOW1, and ended up laying some of the plotlines on a bit too thick, but overall an enjoyable experience with some amazing vast grandiose graphics.

That was where the fun ended.

Multiplayer mode is a disaster. Anyone who bought Gears 1 and lost entire weekends to maiming other people on XBL will tell you that the Gears online experience is the whole point of Gears. The campaign mode lasts a few short hours, but Online takes days of your life... its an awesome experience.

Epic managed to undo all of this with GOW2. Its buggy, glitchy, temperamental and overall a frustrating experience, and thats just the new god-awful 'matchmaking process' which doesnt work.

Then theres the gameplay. For some reason best known to themselves, Epic decided to fundamentally change the way the game plays. All titles have tweaks, and minor mods, but this fundamental shift in the weapon balances, targetting and movement physics has left the online game virtually unplayable. Some of the game modes such as 'annex' are now ridiculous, with entire teams running in with invincible chainsaws and ridiculous overpowered smoke/stun grenades causing players to spend half the game on their backsides trying to get back up without being sucked into another chainsaw.

Most of the magazine reviews had been issued prior to the full launch and without playing the multiplayer game over the 'real' internet, hence lots of glowing reviews of the Campaign mode. But be aware, if you are thinking of buying this for the Multiplayer mode - go and have a look at the Official Epic forums for a real view on how 'good' this game is.

The Epic forums are crawling with complaints of people spending literally 'hours' trying to get into games. There are tenfold more people who have complained and been summararily banned from the forums - Epic keen to gag the hordes of bad press this could give their 'flagship' title.Epic are saying very little on the subject, and if their overzealous moderators on the forums are anything to go by, they are more than a little embarrassed by all the complaints.

I for one have had to turn the game off and play something else for fear of hurling my controller through the TV in sheer frustration. Online gaming is supposed to be fun... this is not the case here.

Possibly the biggest and most disappointing over-hyped release ever.

           Reeks of arrogance and machismo

Pretty much exactly like the first game in every way, but with a far heavier amount of scripted set pieces that make the entire boring affair feel like it's on rails, with the same enemies always in the same spot whenever you play a section. It gets real old real fast, and for a game as short as this, that's a very bad thing.

Visually, the game is detailed, but looks ridiculous, with massive characters that look like action figures rather than real people, with the most oversized hands I've ever seen. It's like a cartoon or something. So pretty, and yet so ugly at the same time.

Online is the same as last time, and pales compared to the likes of GTA 4 and Call of Duty 4.

All in all, another case of overhype by Microsoft that fails to match up to other titles that have been available for an age now.

          Don't waste your money.

Completely lives up to the hype.

After the first GOW, I was afraid that GOW 2 would let me down like Halo 3 did. However, GOW 2 is as amazing as they said it would be.
Basically, here's what's good about it:

          -New weapons are all fun.
-The storyline is class, but not annoyingly deep.
-I'm not bothered about graphics, but I really stopped and stared in awe.
-New characters are excellent (Tai in particular) and our old favourites are still as cool as ever.
-Horde mode is a great addition.
-2 player Campaign is the best I've played, no joke.
-Voice acting is really convincing, tough when it needs to be, funny when it needs to be and meaningful when it needs to be.

          However,it's not completely perfect:
-Personally, I don't like what the LB button does... I preferred on GOW 1 where you pressed Y to look at the other person. Then again, that's a small, personal problem.
-No Cole Train song while the credits are running! That song was off its head.

To summarise - as close to perfection as I could have imagined. Well worth buying, especially if playing with a friend. (I hear online is good too). Just hope the 3rd installment isn't a letdown... Yes you, Halo 3.

Using the adage of if it aint broken don't fix it, gears of war 2 now expands upon the original game buy adding new elements into what is already a great game, GOW2 is now one of those games that benefits from playing the game in Co-Op mode and gives you GP to prove it. The best improvement to GOW2 has to be the Horde mode, this multiplayer mode puts you and a few friends up against wave after wave of attacking horde, this may sound repetitive but it turns into a fight for survival where you are forced to keep an eye on your team mates and make sure they don't die or you all die, try and go it alone and you won't last long. Though GOW2 is not a Hugh upgrade from the original Gears of War there are enough changes to call it a sequel, you will still find a solid shooter with improved graphics and online modes, this is one to put on your xmas list,
