Mafia II

let me start by saying that to me, its the little details that make a classic and mafia 2 has lots and lots of tiny details that make it a must have. Small details like the way the tyres change shape on impact with curbs for example, the way the snow gently blows off the roof as you drive faster and how your car gains dirt over time i also like the fact that this is one of the first openworld games where you can actually run out of fuel! yes details such as pulling up to a gas station and asking the dude at the till to fill her up is amazing and something that all openworld games with cars should have. The game is pure eye candy and dare i say it better looking then gta.The level of detail 2k have put into this game is stunning, so good that at times you dont mind taking a slow drive and stopping at lights just so you can admire the view and look at the buildings, shops and people walking around. The view inside buildings also shares the same level of detail as the outside and all with no loading times. The game itself is all about the single player with no multiplayer at all, the game is also aimed at the older gamer and i think that gamers who like non stop shooting etc may well find some parts of the game quite boring, there are alot of cut scenes but i find them all to be of a very high standard and really help to keep the movie feel of the game. I have read several reviews saying the fighting sucks, the cars handle like tanks, the games to short etc etc well, the fighting is basic, light hit or hard hit and block but what do you expect? 2k want this to be realistic so no, your not going to have round house kicks, super power punches or over the top finishing moves what you get is a good old punch to the nogging and a haymaker and to finish you can knock them out or use the surroundings to do it for you and all in a nice final fight 4 slow motion style including the flying spit and blood. I think the combat works well. The shooting is very good and the weapons are great looking and sound perfect. There is no blind fire which i thought they would include as it seems to be standard issue in most games these days but to be honest i have found that i really have not missed it that much and it certainly has not made the shooting sections any less entertaining. There are lots of guns and of course the tommy gun which you cant help shouting and having abit of a rambo moment when unloading a full clip! the magnum is also very good and sounds exactly like old dirty harry is on the rampage. The cars handle like what you would expect cars of the 1930's+ to handle like, big and heavy, but in a good way and each car feels and sounds different and all show great damage and bullet holes etc. another small detail is that you can open the hood and have a look at the engine or trunk to see if you can fit your 9 iron in. The game could be longer but i think it all depends how you play it, yeah you could rush through it but to be honest i find myself taking my time exploring the city and with the promise of downloadable content adding more missions i think you will be spending more time with this then you think. there are no side missions apart from nicking some cars to order and this is my main negative issue however this game really needs to be played, you can just tell that 2k have really put effort into this, the game runs sweet as a nut and the main characters animations are superb i love it when your in cover how your character still moves and dodges when taking fire abit like drake in uncharted. The music and sound also meet the high standards, so much so that i wish i ordered the collectors edition to get the original score soundtrack cd. So, do the right thing and buy it..

ok, lets get something straight, this is a game which in my opinion, is better than most gta games. i admit that this is a pretty short game and i completed it in 4 days on the hardest difficulty, so fair enough, there is no online which was slightly disappointing, but to be honest, i cant think of any more bad things to say about the game than the above.

the scene clips graphics are good, not great, but good, but the in game graphics are acceptionally good.
even though the map LOOKS quite small, i should imagine it would take a while before driving from one end of it to the other, the details are amazing, not just inside but also outside, there are a large choice of cars, especially after you leave prison when it isnt snowing anymore.

the hand to hand combat is fine, even though theres not much more you can do other than hard punch, light punch, and block, so theres nothing to really talk about there, but the most impressive thing is the story; how many people you meet, how much the missions vary, considering its a third person shooter based in the 1940s, to me, it's one of the best games of 2010 so far.

you can rob stores, buy guns, crush cars into scrap metal (and get paid for it :D) and buy stuff for your car; alloys, paint, upgrades, and even make your own registration plate!

even though there are some minor problems, PLEASE, i beg of you, just try it out, you wont be disappointed, and even if you are, go back to mw2 and camp in the corner of a room with grenade launchers, lol.

Mafia 2 is epic. This game reflects upon the brutal and glamerous life of the Mafia. It has a superb story line with really detailed characters, brilliant twists and turns combined with excellent graphics. 10/10.
I find this game is one of the best games ever created.
A MUST BUY!

mafia 2 seems to have a short story line but its very detailed gameplay makes up for this and the outstanding graffics aswell.
and other comments saying gta has better detail makes me laugh,as mafia 2 is far more realistic in the way the public and the police react to guns and speeding, awsome game, just wish the story line was longer but the adons will sort this out im sure i wouldnt mind paying for that.

I really enjoyed the game don't get me wrong, the guns are really good, the death animations are good and the idea of starting the game in WW2 to get you used to the guns is amazing. The cars are pretty authentic and there is one chapter which puts a really good twist on the usual free roam RPG.

But I feel that 2K Czech could have included multiplayer, it would have been good to have Mafia battles, or a Mafia vs the greasers and so on. Also, the game would be much better if they had more oppurtunities to do side missions/quests, a bit like the Grand Theft Auto system. The inclusion of free roam after the main story would greatly improve the game in my opinion.
