The best game I have ever played. I dont play this game for hours on end and dont forget the real life. I just play this from time to time (mainly weekends) and have played this game for about 4 years now, and its still awsome. Deserves 5 stars.
If you have the time, this is brilliant. If not dont buy it.

This is the type of game where if you don't play for 4 hours straight you won't get anywhere and will achive nothing.
If your a serious gamer looking for a solid game that you can put hours and hours into then this might be the game for you. It's a very slow-pace game so if your looking for a fast paced shooter then don't bother with this. That being said, it takes a lot of consentration, skill, and communication to complete the harder areas of this game. As you play you will team up(party) with, usually, 5 other people(making a 6 person party, which is max. Alliance up to 18) and fight alongside each other. one person not listening or doing his/her job properly can mean the difference between a win and a lose.
The fight and game mechanics are brilliant, as are the graphics, and the spell and weaponskill animations are very appealing.
The story lines make you constantly want to go further, but the new Wings of the Goddess(WOTG) expansion, unfortunatly, leaves a lot to be desired as it feels empty and soulless. It's still deffinatly worth getting for the other parts of the game though.
Bottom line is, if you have endless hours to put into a game then this will keep you occupied for years. If you only have a spare hour a day then you won't be able to get very far in this game and it's probably not worth the hassle.
I gave this 4 stars because although everything in the game deserves 5, the time needed to put into it is huge.
too slow

I agree this game requires far too much time to enjoy properly, thats not too say its a terrible game it had a lot of groundbreaking features about 5 years ago, I played it for about two months with a group of friends but found it too frustrating to get in to. If your thinking of buying this game try and get your hands on a free trial first.
Right read this.

I'm giving this 5 stars because it deserves it. FFXI is a great game if you have the time to play it.
£8.99 per month, and you only need a silver membership for live to play it.
You need alot of spare time to paly this as everything in it takes alot of time. A great way to socialise and just have fun.
Pick a race, pick a gender, pick a job, pick a hometown, pick a craft, pick a world have fun! The climb to maximum level of 75 is a long one but a fun one if you pick a job you enjoy.
It gave me something to do when i was at school in year 10, 11 and boring weeknights and whilst you have nothing to do except watch the junk on saturday night tv. I gave it up because it took up too much of my time whilst i was at college.
I may start playing it again i dont know, but it is always there with your character waiting for you if you wanted to start again.
Best Leave..

...This game with wow and any other before in the past.
There's alot newer and better designed mmo's out there atm. game's fighting system and graphics and lack of pvp leave it dull.
This game requires intense hours of play to even get the lvl cap let alone end game gear.
- As a player for 3 years and completed Sky/Sea/ToAU near enough fully. Wings of the godess seemed boring to me.
Can saffely say the games not worth the hassle just don't waste your money and time playing it with servers devided by language barriers and immense end game activity going on leave new players very challenged to level up and even socialise at times.
Only plus side i can say if you can play for 7+ hours a day everyday and are a fan of ffxi... go for it, but i guarntee you'll realise it's a waste of time in the end of it all.
