Fight Night 3 is probably one of the best games on the 360 certainly top 5 possibly 3. And from what I can see they have done so many good things to this game, and then ruined it by making the controls feel like youve put the toggle pads in concrete!
You constantly flick the right stick to make punches only for random excuses for punches or just nothing to happen. It genuinely has absolutely ruined what would probably be an even better game than its predecessor.
I have played the demo as has my friend many times and neither of us can knock anyone out simply because landing to decent punches one after the other is bordering on the impossible.
As much as I can agree the controls and method of throwing haymakers needing some work on from round 3. Its is undescribable untill you play it how bad the controls are and fail to see how anyone can rate this highly because its no where near as good as 3.
The reason I give this 3 stars is only because I'm sure that when they release the full game they will return the control method back to the same way it was in Round 3 with some modifications. If not as I say they have just ruined 3 years by simply giving it the most unresponsive controls.
personally i think that FNR3 is better, but thats just me.
I don't understand the amount of people who have criticised this game. It is soooo much better than fight night round 3, the graphics are better the gameplay's better. More importantly the career mode is phenominal, a lot of thought has clearly gone into the career mode, and you can really go too town on personalizing your boxer, you can literally customize everything, gloves, shorts, boots, robes..... honestly, by this game, it really is somethin' else..
I've been looking forward to this for some time and based on the demo I'm feeling a little short changed.
With punches being thrown via the right stick, it feels far too easy to throw an incorrect punch. For example, the difference in stick movement between an uppercut and a cross is very small. This constantly left me wide open to a hefty smack in the face, which in a boxing game isn't ideal.
The graphics are good but as mentioned in one of the other reviews they do have something of a cartoon like quality. In some of the close ups, the fighters look like wax works and are certainly not as good as the those in UFC 2009.
The actual physics of the fight seem to work well although punches feel weak when thrown. The haymaker punches feel especially under powered and during one bout I knocked my opponenet down with a punch, which quite frankly my Nan could have taken!?
I sincerely hope that this is one of those games that improves the longer you play it and that the full version will "draw you in" so that the minor flaws can be overlooked.
This game is truley amazing. Graphics are really good but whats better is the effect of there faces when they have been punched several times. There whole ey can swell up depending on the times its hit and you can split there cheeks etc. The customisation is really good and the legacy mode is awsome. The only problem i have with this game is that in the fight now option the fighters dont have belts you can challange for (like wrestling games) but this is not that big a problem but would of made it perfect. This is a must have.
