 Flawed but compelling

The first hour in this game is extremely frustrating. The graphics aren't great, the sheathe/unsheathe weapon mechanic is annoying, the voice acting is patchy and there are even invisable walls in the game field.

However persavere and you will find one of the most deep, involving and innovative JRPGs in a long time.
The story may be cliched but the characters (nearly 20 of them!) are all likable and well fleshed out.
The combat is very satisfying, with everything in real time, even when you access your menu. Collision detection is spot on and movement is fluid. You can issue commands to you comrades and the AI is very good at acting on its own and following orders.

This game may have some detractors due to its flaws and the fact some places seem half finished. But those willing to dig deep enough will find one of the best JRPGs of this generation.

 Great JRPG game!

This is a great JRPG game for those specific fans out there. It has all of the cliche and twists that makes the game worth playing. The storyline throughout the game was consistant, lacking in a few areas but overall it was a nice story from SE and it reminded me more of the old FF series rather than anything new. The battle system from the game wasn't the best, but yet again it wasn't the worst either. Once you get to grips with the different combo's you can pull off, it gets a lot more fun to work with. The only major flaw I had with this game was the SERIOUSLY bad lip syncing. I mean c'mon... you can turn a blind eye to a few words here and there, but there was scenes when someone's mouth had already stopped moving and they were speaking! =( ...but nevertheless, the game was fun and in the end that's all that counts! Great game for the price, don't hesitate!

4 Star but a couple of down sides...

Well as a lover of RPG, this is my first for the 360. the graphics are brilliants and the gameplay is smooth and enjoyable. The storyline is good although slightly hard to grasp if you are someone like me who just wants to have the gameplay!
There are a couple of downsides which for me should of had a few more hours trying to prefect.... One being the out of sync cutscenes, nothing big i know but its always nice to have. Secondly, it will start to get abit annoying when the main character always announces the move you are using... but again no biggy!
In all a very good game and for the price i recommend. I suggest playing with a large LCD for better gameplay as on my smallish screen its had to read!

 A Refreshing Change

I don't usually review games so soon after release, as I don't think anyone can give an accurate representation of the product until they have at least completed half the game. The time I have put in has been pleasant, however, and I feel the negativity surrounding the game needs counterbalancing.

Think Phantasy Star Online, without the online, but with a better story and your going along the right lines. The combat is real time and is a refreshing change to the many turn-based RPG's on the console. The team is made up of four characters, with the player controlling just the one, with the option of ordering characters to perform specific attacks/healing.

It is a deceptively deep game, with forging, cooking and writing (to add spells) all requiring item-farming, which makes levelling up more bearable. Tactics like asking team members to conserve magic and "waiting" also come into play. Bonus objectives can be completed by fulfilling certain criteria, which is also a first for a 360 RPG.

So the graphics aren't brilliant and the voiceovers are absent for 30% of the cutscenes, but its enjoyable and will last longer than the 20 hours stated due to all the extra missions and item forging. I think if you have finished Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, then this is your next best bet, as it surpasses Eternal Sonata/Enchanted Arms in my opinion.

So, don't let negativity put you off. It's not perfect, but then again certain people can never be happy (Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey certainly aren't rubbish - See completely delussional comment below)

I am certainly happy with my purchase!

 Hmm...

I do miss the Turn Based Battle System, but after i got through the first little bit... which lasted around 15-20 mins (Im a bit rusty) i really got into it, is a great JRPG and i would recommend for anyone who can put up with long winded intros!
