             "Letdown vs Raw" Old school...

OK, so if you read my review about SVR2009 you'll see I am once again a huge fan of the genre after being disappoionted with SVR2007/08. I ordered this and then downloaded the demo from XBOX Live a week or so before the release....and I am glad I did. Apart from playing with Stone Cold Steve Austin's character, it's awful! Control system is terrible and I surely cannot be the only one who bought this thinking it would be a clone control wise to SVR2009 with old characters. That's what we want isn't it all?! I'm only scoring 2 stars for the fact that the legends are resurected but I wish in their glory, which they are not. Graphically well down on the SVR series. I immediately cancelled my PLAY order just in time. What I would do is now search for Smackdown Vs. Raw 2009 and get that bought from here. If you have XBOX Live (or PS3? not sure if these downloads are on there yet), you can download a load of old characters from the 80's with your MS Points (2 packs are 1600 points I believe). That game plays awesomely (is there such a word?!) and is fantastic graphically. A proper WWE purchase. Save yourself some money and invest in the other game. If THQ are reading this, you should stick to what you're great at and release an update to copy the SVR control system as it WORKS!!!! Your magazines and fans tell you that, so why change it pointlessly!!!! Moan over, hope this review helps. Regards, Will

I really can't describe the feeling I got when I heard Hulk Hogan's entrance theme during the first Relive match, it was spine tingling, the nostalgia was through the roof.

I feel I thoroughly got my money's worth in this game, the controls are simple, damage is back to how it was back in the "JBI" and "SYM" when the franchise was at it's peak.

A few problems is how long the game is, now it provided me with about, 3 days of solid play time, then I was absolutely 100% finished with this game, that is NOT how it should be, however there is talk of DLC packs coming out, with new matches and new wrestlers, this could be true, or just nonsense, but here's hoping!

The choice of wrestlers is...good but really they couldn't gone to more recent times, and of past times, such as Virgil defeating Ted DeBiase as WM7, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Goldust in the Backlot Brawl (could of course become a driving game!) but of course, Undertaker versus Kane would be simply amazing.

Otherwise, the gameplay is great, the memories and vivd and wonderful, any WWE fan should buy this now!

             Redefining "legend"

            | | See all smedley's reviews (2)

Here we have a brand new version of the word "legend" I was previously unaware of. No "Macho Man", "Diesel", "Razor Ramon" ("legendary" ladder match, anyone? - and yet the likes of Koko B Ware and Kamala are classed as legends??? LEGENDS??? Nice to see faves like Ultimate Warrior (who fell out big-time with WWE, so I am presuming copyright is not necessarily a reason NOT to include such luminaries as those above, plus Owen Hart, Tatanka, even Bob Backlund is more worthy of "legend" status than Kamala.
I've not yet tried importing from Smackdown vs Raw 2009, but I think this is a neat feature. With so much TV hype surrounding the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania, it is a shame that this game omits the past decade and goes for the first 15 manias. It's OK, but the omissions are very annoying - as are some graphical glitches like the ropes disappearing at times, so your wrestler adopts a strange mid-air leaning pose. Some loose ends, which, if tied up, may have warranted four stars. As it is, three is fairly generous.

             Demo Only!!!!!!

            | | See all Deano117's reviews (3)

First off am a BIG wrestling fan myself always have been, Played all the wrestling games since the days of the Mega Drive!! lol.
I dont normaly write reviews for Demos but I know allot of people are in two minds about this game - cash in on Wrestlemania OR decent game on its own!.

Now this game is quite different to smackdown or any other wrestling game for that matter its very simulated in ring action for eg you do a move and on screen it says press this button if you dont your character gets hit then you have a chance to hit them and so on and so on! even the finshers you press X+B then its says ok now press Y then B again and you do say 2 of your characters signature moves then your finisher. Some people may find why what I have just said to be rubbish why would you want to play a game where 70% of the action is just press this press that? Because if you Love wrestling and Wrestlemania it is just like the matches you remember and before each match up it shows you TV build up which if your a wrestling fan really does get you in the mood the try to re-create the match as best you can and if you do you get points for making the match like the real life event.

Like I said in he title this is just a Demo review for anybody who hasnt got X-Box Live and likes Wrestling the other modes should be good although I can see it being repetative and if your playing with a friend or online your still going to pressing one button for moves just going to be a case of who is quickest!.

All in all I can tell because I have played wrestling games allot that this is something different and refreshing but still with allot of limitations yes it probably is a cash in but for £30 quid from play and if your a wrestling fan your probably going to get it even if you have smackdown! For those who dont like wrestling but maybe enjoy smackdown please avoid this game is just for fans of wrestling only. I myself will not be getting as yes I do think its just a cash in and there are other games out that need to be bought more than this even for a a hug Westling fan like myself!!!! Going to probably pick it up cheap one, two months after.

really wanted this to be good

I played the demo hoping it would be good fun alas while the graphics are stunning i couldnt get used to Irish wipping someone only to have to bash a button dance mat stylie to perform a move now i understand this would be good for pin/submit situations to stop the kids whooping you online but please save the button bashing for Winter olympics
