This is by far the best MotoGP game so far, a big step forward from 07. Graphics are great. The return of the 125's and 250's give the game more variety than 07 and makes career more interesting. Also being able to improve how realistic the handling and gameplay is is a great improvement. Havn't tried online yet but im sure it'll be great fun.
I dont know what planet fearless is on! I love everything about Moto GP 08 from Capcom. It has all the official riders, tracks and bikes for a start. The authentic Moto GP menus and logos.
The user interface is easy to navigate and starts by asking you to take a tutorial which is basically an arcade race. There are 'Advanced' and 'Simulation modes to choose too.
When you grasp simulation it is a dream to play. Graphically Moto GP is great considering the number of bikes on screen and the tracks have been modelled very well. Sounds of the bikes are decent enough, maybe could improve.
There are many different camera angles to choose from when racing, including 1st person and dashboard views. Replays are impressive with great camera placements and varied camera options.
All round a very polished game
I have been playing motogp since it first came out on the original xbox. In my opinion it played a pivotal role in making xbox live (and the live beta) great fun. Over time i lost interest in the motogp game series - the developers did not innovate enough in the '06 and '07 games. I don't know how thq thought american road racing was ever going to interest motogp fans. The logical innovation would have been to introduce the 125 and 250cc bikes, which are already a hugely popular part of the motogp series. Well the good news is that capcom have done include all 3 classes. So i would like to thank them for that - thank you capcom. No longer will i think of you the developer of my favourite nes game (bionic commando).
Happy racing!
I must admit I was apprehensive and the first time I played on it I thought that it wasnt as good as 07. The second time I actually engaged my brain and realised this is absolutely awesome. The number of different difficulty setting is great. Not only can you adjust the level of the opponents AI you can change the handling too, between, arcade, simulation and advanced. Arcade is fully assisted handling so you can hit the throttle as hard as you want and the brakes without really coming off. You can then set the AI to easy, medium, hard. Simulation naturally reduces the amount of assist and finally advanced will get me as close to riding a GP bike as I wil ever get. You really have to be careful with the throttle and the brakes ensuring you get everything done before the corner. You cant hit the gas too hard or it will high side you. Its absolutely brillaint and takes some serious skill to master it. I am still a long way off.
The graphics are starnge and I dont mean that in a bad way. They seem overall much much bettr but 07 seemed to look slightly better in some areas but im not really sure where. Its equaly as smooth if mot more so and the tracks have far more detail. The riders do too. You can actually see the riders eyes! Theres a nice walkabout feature when you pause tat lets you go 360 degrees round your bike whilst you race. The camera modes are brillaint. Youcan actually use the nose camera now without getting totally disorientated like on 07.
Its great to have all the new bikes and kits BUT, and this is my only gripe, they are not ctually new kits and bikes as the season has finished. WHY NOT DELAY THE GAME AND ACTUALLY BRING IT OUT IN MARCH TOTALLY UP TO DATE?????
There are loads of challenges with different riders that should take agaes to complete. You can build your own rider up, starting at the 125s. You have to choose his sponsrs and things like that and then race him to win ugrades.
The addition of 125 and 250 is a masterstroke as it finally makes it a proper Moto GP game. Again shame they are getting replaced by the 600!!!! I saw another review that bemoaned the lack of extreme. I understand but whats that actually go tto do with Moto Gp. This is finally a proper moto gp game that delivers on all counts. 9.5/10 (half a point off for coming out when the season has finsished)
Anyway, overall its amazing and at £30 is a total steal brand new. Cant believe it was not £40. Well done PLay! Free moto gp t shirt with the game too.
Okay, this game has changed hands in two ways. It used to be made by Climax and published by THQ, but now its made by Milestone (of SBK-08 infamy) and is now published by Capcom. This has changed a lot of things for the worse. The steering suffers from the same awful control as SBK-08 and you can easily spin out while taking a gentle corner at 30mph. The graphics seem a bit more polish and shiny, but aren't necessarily any better. The new courses and 125 and 250 cc add some decent content, but the loss of Extreme mode can make the game very repetitive as there's now half the courses and bikes as before. If you're a big fan of the MotoGP series of games I'd recommend waiting for a demo before splashing out £30+ on this one. I've returned it and bought 07 again.
