This title has been criminally underexposed i suppose it could be due to the numeral delays it has suffered, i was emmencely surprised by the lack of people that even knew of this titles existance. The game itself is beautiful, the graphics, whilst not groundbreaking, are still very good. Light and shadow is also made very good use of and emphasises the dream like sequence through which you replay the main character's (violet summer) memory. When comes to actually sneaking and killing, this mechanic works very well and situations call for thought and planning to progress through a room without being spotted, however, that is not to stay that the game is all stealth, in some areas you will be forced to grab a good old fashioned shotgun and run and gun through areas. In these instances, the quirk of morphine is very handy. As you are playing through a dream sequence you are able to manipulate events when you have enough morphine, this allows you, for a short time, to run impeaded, as if in bullet time, and make the kill that may otherwise be unreachable. The setting of the game is also very competantly bought to life by Southpeak. World War Two is one of my personal favourtie settings for any media of literature or games. However, it is not often in games that you see action of world war two away from the frontline. This is a treasure trove of a setting which isnt plundered often enough. The collectibles in the game are time specific and add a nice touch for example the eidellwiess badge which would have come from a resistance group member can be found dotted around the levels along with other collectables. The letters that you can collect are also a nice addition and it is clear that a great deal of attention has been payed to making the time period immersive. To round this up, this game is as good, if not better than most titles i have played in recent months and has sadly fallen victim to underexposure, so come on guys, lets give credit where credit is due and support this.
GT: Rindidumplin
A very good stealth game, and i dont normally like stealth games!
since I like the stealth genres I thought this might be good. Well it is in some ways.
this game requires allot of stealth unlike MGS. This game has some problems like:
1. Gun usage
2. they can see you in the shadows
okay lets get away from the problems and talk about the good features yeah okay it looks good the detail is good and some very good voice acting. some times you will overhear the enemy speaking and it will give some detail of what they was like back in WW2.
overall I think this is a good game to buy. Well done Southpeak.
Please don't believe all the unfair and negative reviews written about this game because from what I can see there is nothing wrong with it and I have been playing it now for about 3 hours and am enjoying it very much. Its true that it doesn't offer anything new to the stealth genre but if you are a fan of stealth games like Thief and Splinter Cell (1-3) then you will enjoy this game to. The graphics are nice and the lighting and shadow effects are excellent. The ambient music is also good and reminds me of Thief. The controls are also very good, easy and intuitive. This is not a run and gun game like MGS, this is a true stealth game were you have to sneak around a lot and infiltrate bases and stealth kill enemies and if you do not like this type of game-play that requires patients and watching enemies from the shadows to memorise there behaviour then steer clear of this game. But like I said before, if you are a fan of Thief and Splinter Cell (1-3) then this is for you, you know who you are.
Velvet Assassin was the first and last rushed pre-order of my life [unless it's a sequel]. I was so excited when I ordered it, but now I haven't even summed up enough patience to complete it once!
Don't get me wrong, the graphics are pretty good, the storyline is OK and music gives a lot of suspense, which is very good, but the gameplay is where Velvet Assassin completely fails to reach its great potential.
The Ai is inconceivably dumb, and the enemy soldiers are seemingly cloned since they all look practically identical. For example, say you kill a soldier in a room with two doors, and after you kill the soldier, you exit the room and another soldier comes in from the other door. Normally, when a soldier finds a dead body, he would send the whole building on red alert.
Not on this game. If he doesn't find you, he'll just shrug and go back on his patrol as if nothing happened. That completely reomves any realism whatsoever from the game. And that's one example of the many AI faults throughout the game.
I would strongly recommend a rental first before buying...Don't rush like I did, or you'll be disappointed.
