Gears Of War (Classics)

Well, it says on the box gears of war and also on the disc itself but this weak attempt seriously cannot be the game that i have heard people raving about for so long. I would really like to ask the other people who have given this game such good reviews if they have ever played BLACK on the xbox or even Halo 1 which is almost 5 years old now. Both of these games are far superior to GOW. As somebody who has been a fan of shoot em ups for 15 years I was amazed at how the gameplay is so weak even in comparison to goldeneye on the nintendo 64 and even further back than that Duke Nukem on the PC. THOSE were games with real playability. Graphics are ok but nothing special. I think the main problem is that you are controlling a clumsy oaf who likes to slam into walls and do forward rolls with the elegance of a hippo. I had to try and force myself to play it just to give it a try but it never got any better. I found myself plugging in my old x box after a very short period of time and playing a real game like Hitman, Blood Money. This game has the advantage that you can actually control the person in the game. This tends to help when people are attacking you with machine guns. As an older gamer I feel sorry for the younger generation who have never experienced real gameplay. If this game is supposed to be one of the best there is, it is a sorry state of gaming indeed.

Believe the hype about Gears of War.

The Gameplay, Graphics and story are uterly compelling.

The longevity of this game is astounding, and it really is a genre defining new bench mark in gaming.

So, the campaign mode. Excellent. Enemies are tough intellegent, dive for cover, try to flank you. Pin you down. Incredible.

After playing it alone on campaign you'll want to beat it on its hardest difficulty setting 'Insane' so team up with a friend and play it over Xbox live.

This makes the camapign mode even more compelling. Helping your downed team mate get up after he's taken to much fire. Getting tactical and moving to flank and destroy the enemy. Absoloutly excellent.

The games visuals and in game surround sound are incredible. Graphically, it is the best game I have ever seen. Each moment of the game oozes detail. The fallen beauty of mans empire is amazingly recreated.

Explosions, enemy voices come from all over the room.

Weapons are balanced and you can only carry 1 handgun, 2 large rifles and 1 type of grenade. This is more realistic than being able to carry an arsenal of 20 or more guns.

The 3rd Person cover system works seemlesly. Running for cover, aiming and taking out enemies. Excellent.

The gore is unbelievable, so if like me you have young children you'll never be able to have a quick go when there around as if someone gets to close, you'll want to stick them with a grenade and watch them disintergrate. Or cut them in two, 3 or 4 pieces with your Chainsaw Rifle.

Brilliant.

Online multiplayer is challenging - two teams of 4 taking each other out over a variety of great looking and balanced maps.

Other players are very passionate about winning and each time you play online you get more out of it. I'm not bored after 6 months of play.

So the special edition tin? Well you get a pretty book explaining the back story which is worth a read, a shiny metal tin and A DVD with the making of etc... Which edition you get doesn't really matter as it is the game where you'll spend your time.

In a word, fantastic Buy it now

This game must be two years old now i think and i bought it in february because it was £25 down from £50 and i though i'd give it a go, boy was it worth it. I can't believe i didn't like it before but this game is up there with Halo 3 and GTA and other great games, the story line is fantastic, to go with the 3rd person view you get to chainsaw people in half, can you do that on other games? Also, online multiplayer is the nuts. Everybody is still on this and to still play this religiously after two years speaks for itself.

Reading through the reviews that many people have written about this game has shocked me to the core!....how can anyone give this game 3 stars or less!
This game is one of the main reasons I bought a xbox 360, since I first played about 2 years ago I have loved this game and have never not loved it! The single player campaign is so atmospheric, lighting effects on the game are still some of the best out there, cut scenes are brilliant. The cover system in the game works very well, the on screen prompts help you learn what to do easily. The weapons in the game are fantastic they feel real, very gritty, make you feel like you need to oil and clean them when you get to the checkpoints! Characters are very well written with acting close to a cgi film (which would be amazing if you're reading this Mr. maker of GOW).
I have played the game countless times and it gets better the harder the difficulty setting.
There is no better feeling on a game than poppin locusts heads with a sniper rifle!
Gears of war 2 will be immense!
If you own a 360 and you don't have this game you need to buy it now! It will be the best £17.99 you spend! Even full price you wont be disappointed!

Its just amazing!, the story mode is great, the animation is close to flawless(apart from when someones bleeding out then u use chainsaw-riffle then they stand-up lol) but forget that its just mindnumbingly amazing it must b purchased!, and multiplayer is even better its just tactical gone gory, ghost recon meets alien and it works incredably! the gore effects are just blood awsome(quite literaly :D) but thats why u love them!
