I used to use Ikea batteries, of which I'd need at least 4 during 3-4 hour session, now with the play and charge kit, I plug it in during a session and my controller is charged.
The best 12.99 you can spend upgrading your xbox.
Not only are you saving money, you're saving the environment.
The only peripheral needed

This is definitely the only thing you will need once you purchase a console. It completely replaces the need for AA batteries that the wireless pad takes.
Its easy to use, simply plug the USB plug into one of the front USB ports on the bottom (or right hand side) of your console, dependent on how you have you console, and the other end onto the top of your wireless pad. The light will then go red, when it goes green, its charged. It normally takes around 4 hours to charge fully compared to the Quick Charge Kits 2 hour charge time, but this is cheaper and you have the convenience of being able to charge in the middle of a game. Its a must buy.
Tip for 'console still on' concerns and charge life.

Optionally have two wireless controllers. Have one on charge while using the other(presumably charged). When session is over, turn off console off and disconnect charged one for next session and connect other for charging as the next time console is used, the controller you used gets a top up.
This will eliminate any 'console still on' concerns and you'll alway have a fully charged controller for the next play session. This should also provide ample charge for each play session. I have my play & charge half way connected for easier disconnection and it still charges fine and it's easier to disconnect next time.
Less frustrating than replacing batteries over with quick charge kit which I had. Hope this helps.
