Having recieved the game but a month ago, I have played it fairly extensively between now and then. It promised to be the first game of it's kind, but with more active war based games like COD 5 smothering the format and the big name of Halo Wars just on the horizon, can it deliver?
Well, having started up the game for the first time, your first task is a fairly lengthy voice recognition process, then what is effectively a turorial of a few easy missions, nicely fitting in to the overall story. Whilst these steps are fairly lengthy and dull, they are neessary due to th complexity of what has been atempted here.
From here on out you are thrust into the ever-changing World War 3! The story seems a little Hollywood, and very American, but in reality is easily follow-able (trust me) and instantly immersive.
The thing that impressed me most so far is the consequences. Every battle has an impact on your brettalion and the war in general, and whilst it may seem strange without a set story which is dictated to you, it's really great to feel you are in controll.
The voice system starts out as a fun novelty and then moves on to a fairly effeicent tool. The commands are largely understood, however when they occationally aren't it really bites as the controller shouts loudly down your ear! Nothing irritates me more than losing a unit due to the failure of the system!
The online modes seem very interesting with oppertunities available for ranked and private matches. Amazingly, one of the games party pieces is it's 'Theatre of War'. This is basically a huge real time war, fought by people all over the world, with your actions effecting everybody Cool, huh? This, however, is only for the very elite. Nobody wants to be the person responsible for a huge loss; I've stayed away!
I would recommend this game to anybody seeking the buzz and also the pressure of a military engagement all from the sofa, with nothing really at stake than your pride and a few virtual men! Don't feel threatened by it. You are eased in slowly by the game and the easier difficulties really make it accessable to even the most useless and nervous gamer!
End war is a great strategy game!!! Not only does it use a new revolutionary way of commanding your units. I.e through voice command, but in order to win and progress tactics are vital unlike some other strategy games that just require you to build a huge force and crush the opponent!!!
Placing troops in one place and not another could literally mean winning or losing a battle.
The campaign mode really does make this game great!!! You can choose from one of three factions europe, russia or usa once you have completed the pre world war 3 missions. Then you move to a world map were you decide what areas of the world you want to attack!!! The idea behind it is to achieve world dominance. If you win your faction does well however if you lose you will be pushed back.
On a unit level when you choose your faction you also get to choose what sort of battalion you want to use weather this be armored or resonance, aimed to help suit your style of strategy.
Units can a bought upgrades from the credits earned each battle and units gain experience each battle they take part in. So don't get them killed!!!

Happy gaming!!!
Very good game with many factions and battalions to choose from. When you first start off on campaign the levels are set, meaning you get to know the three teams by playing in the events building up to world war 3, this is the prelude to war. When you have completed prelude to war the battle has only just begun. WW3 has just started. During this mode all three factions (teams) own all the land in their countries. The teams must take their turn to do battle. There are a few modes of battles you can do E.G. Take out all hostile units or capture all uplinks. when you win you move on to that piece of land and can play in the surrounding areas. Get world domination and you have completed it with that faction. If you want to choose which battles you want to do there is also a skirmish mode to choose any of the battles and teams.
I hope this review has helped!
I have to say that i have had this game for quite some time. One of the things that i would say to anyone thinking about this game is it takes time.
The combat chain is simple, in what takes units down best against other units, i.e helicoptors kill tanks, tanks kill transports and transports kill helicoptors. The single player is a challenge especially on the harder settings of which it has three.
Online has a good community but when you start off with all low ranked units and have to work to upgrade them, which are done by getting awarded credits for how well you do in battles. So this is why i say it takes time, you will die lots and battles will be over before you know it. But give it time and learn the maps and get some better units and it really is an enjoyable game.
For this price it is a must by.
The reason this game is £10, simply, is that it is awful and has fallen way short of the quality mark usually present in Tom Clancy titles. Ubisoft seem to have become so swept up in getting the voice command right that they forgot to make a good, or at least functional game aroiund it. This is promising, as it shows what can be achieved in the right hands, but the weak strategy and poor sense of realism or atmosphere mean that this is a game that has failed to live up to the hype it received. Disappointing.
