For Max Payne, the tragedies that took his loved ones years ago are wounds that refuse to heal. No longer a cop, close to washed up and addicted to pain killers, Max takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting the family of wealthy real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco, in an effort to finally escape his troubled past. But as events spiral out of his control, Max Payne finds himself alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, desperately searching for the truth and fighting for a way out.

Featuring cutting edge shooting mechanics for precision gunplay, advanced new Bullet Time and Shootdodge effects, full integration of Natural Motion's Euphoria Character Behaviour system for lifelike movement and a dark and twisted story, Max Payne 3 is a seamless, highly detailed, cinematic experience from Rockstar Games.

In addition to an expansive single-player campaign, Max Payne 3 will also be the first entry in the series to introduce a thorough and engrossing multiplayer experience. Max Payne 3 multiplayer brings the same cinematic feel, fluid gunplay and sense of movement of the single-player game into the realm of online multiplayer. Using the fiction and signature gameplay elements of the Max Payne universe, Max Payne 3 features a wide range of new and traditional multiplayer modes that play on the themes of paranoia, betrayal and heroism, all delivered with the same epic visual style of the single player game.
  • Suitable for 18 years and over. Not for sale to persons under age 18. By purchasing this product, you declare that you are 18 years of age and over.

  • Developed by Rockstar Games for a seamless, highly detailed, cinematic experience
  • Advanced Bullet Time and Shootdodge and Final Kill-cam mechanics for stylish shooting action
  • Cutting edge aiming, targeting and animation processes for precise, fluid gunplay
  • A dark, twisted story chronicling the return of Max Payne, one of the most iconic characters in videogames
  • Tight integration between Natural Motion's Euphoria Character Behaviour System and a brand new iteration of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) for lifelike movement and a new level of environmental awareness
  • A wide range of weapons rendered in incredible detail: hammers cock back, shells eject from the chamber and each bullet is individually modeled from the split second it's fired to the moment of impact.
  • Advanced particle physics and destructible environments set the stage for dramatic and chaotic gun fights
  • New to the series, a compelling and addictive multiplayer experience to match the dark and relentless atmosphere of the single-player game

 Max Payne; the movie

This game is visually stunning, which is great! but the problem is all you do is watch the game, and kill about 3 people in-between cut-scenes.

 Dont believe the hype

this is one big disappointment! after shooters like cod, why oh why cant game makers see the quality of the competition, and make better games. the multiplayer is DIRE! its not even second rate! this is a game that could have been great, sadly it falls way short! Rockstar you have failed to deliver. and i have bought another game after believing the hype! You Have Been Warned!

As Exhilarating as it is Frustrating

Whilst playing Max Payne 3 my opinion on the game changed almost minute to minute. One second I would find myself enjoying the action packed, if rather one note, gameplay the next I would be closing to turning off the game through pure frustration.

Anyone that has played any of the previous titles in the series won't really find any gameplay surprises here and the bullet-time mechanic, while no longer as original as it was when the first game was released over a decade ago, can certainly still be great fun when you are able to get things right. The gunplay is also pretty solid but questionable design choices often make it seem as though the game is going out of its way to prevent the player enjoying themselves. Every so often the player will be handed back control following a cut scene to find themselves under heavy fire, if you don't get your bearings quick enough you're dead. A number of other sections will also see you killed pretty quickly if you go in all guns blazing leading to a frustrating amount of trial and error. On these occasions the game can become a generic, and rather average, cover based shooter forcing the player to pick of enemies one at a time. Try to imagine a slightly inferior imitation of Modern Warfare 2's campaign (including the favela) and you're not far off. Vest wearing bad guys that seem to be able to take three or four bullets to the chest and yet still continue to fire back at you only add further to the frustration. Having to repeat a section because you are killed by an enemy you assumed was already dead is not fun. Another of the games problems is that the gameplay doesn't evolve at all from start to finish. I wasn't expecting the freedom of an open world game but some choice in how to tackle certain missions would have been nice. Why could the bullet time mechanic not be used to help keep the player unnoticed by enemies for example?

In terms of its characters and storyline this third outing is certainly aiming for a more serious tone. To be perfectly honest however this is another aspect of the game that doesn't really work. Many of the cut-scenes are longer than necessary and simply end up intruding on the gameplay. Listening to Mr Payne spout increasing forced 'film noir' type metaphors is almost laughable on occasions and by the end of the game I wasn't really paying much attention to what was going on.

Thanks to some fantastically cinematic set pieces there is plenty of enjoyment to be had here but if this series is to attract me back for any sequels the developers need to get back to the drawing board and offer a bit more variety next time around.

This game is a great buy. The graphics are incredibly advanced and create brilliant realism. I have not tried the multiplayer and I don't intend to. I buy Rockstar games for the sensational story modes in the game. Completed on Medium and that was a challenge!
Well worth a buy.
