Final Fantasy XIII
7 New from
So far I have seen 1 star and 5 star ratings... this Final Fantasy is in between that somewhere at 3 stars! Previous reviews I have taken the time to read have been from one extreme to the other so here is a balanced argument...
The graphics are incredible - the 3D modelling is really good and everything is in sync. Gameplay is easy to get used to and is enjoyable once you get into the game more. The battle system has been, so far, a good mixture of previous Square Enix games which include FFX-2 (Worst FF I know) as it is a very free moving style, and Last Remnant which is noticed by the replenishment of health after each battle. It uses something called the 'Paradigm' system which is to do with battle roles that each character has, and you can experiment with different combinations to create different battle strategies - Very Good!
The levelling up system is kind of non-existent but Square Enix have adapted the successful FFX sphere grid into something called 'Crystarium', which is laid out the same way as the sphere grid and much easier to use. As you go through the game you pick up items which are components and they can be exchanged for exp points to level up weapons and accessories - much better than the badly designed FF8 weapon upgrade system!!!
Now to the storyline... I have seen others say it is bad and boring, but this reviewer believes that 10 hours of gameplay is not enough to base a review on. The storyline is very confusing and you have to get so far into the game before everything clicks into place. If you buy the collector's edition then the hardback artwork book gives you a brief explanation of things. The story itself is very Final Fantasy - complex and interesting.
The eidolon system is the best part of the game! It is a cross-breed of FFX and FFXII... you summon the eidolon and they fight alongside you in battle with an array of incredible moves! Only one summon per character unfortunately and you cannot choose which character has which but it is no let down. You can go into 'Gestalt' mode which makes your eidolon transform into a different form. E.G. Odin goes from being his humanoid form into his horse. The character then rides the transformed eidolon and you can choose which moves to employ - Brilliant!
The downsides to the game include - only being able to control the party leader in a battle, not being able to choose your party members (so far I cannot anyway), and not being able to free-roam around the world (which you do not know how it is set out!)
3 out of 5 for this game due to the downsides. It is not the best Final Fantasy I have played but it is not the worst by far. Out of 10 this deserves a 5 or 6! However it is well worth the money and if you are a Final Fantasy fan then this definately should be part of your collection.

I played the demo... and was majorly disappointed! The controls are awkward, camera is difficult to manoeuvre, and the gameplay is slow and feels so sluggish. After all the hype and places giving this an 8.5 out of 10, I am just wondering what they were smoking at the time!
This game is a big, big, BIG let down and is not worth the money unless it is less than a tenner!

Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight

Here's the deal... yeah it is different and the graphics are not like C&C 3 but is that such a reason to slate this game? To me the graphics are blended with Red Alert style. The Offence, Defence and Support class MCVs add a new level to strategic thinking. True enough the absence of tiberium and a limit on units and buildings is a bit of a downer, but all it does is make you think more on your toes and plan out tactics more carefully with a limited force.
The storyline from what I have seen is pretty weak and doesn't grip you much. 26.99 is stretching it a little to be fair so if you can get it for cheaper than 20 pounds then it is a good buy. All in all this is a good game regardless of what others say (this coming from someone who has played and completed all Command and Conquers since the first one came out).
Give this game a chance as it is quite enjoyable. Change doesn't always mean it's a bad game... it just means you have to think differently.
The Last Remnant

This game is one of those not very well known classics unfortunately. It has brilliant storylines, top-notch gameplay, excellent battle system and graphics that will blow your mind! In a lot of games the facial expressions of characters never ring true but in Last Remnant this is not the case; a very detailed use of facial expressions and flawless 3D Modelling on fiends and monsters.
A highly addictive game with an excellent soundtrack! There are about a dozen battle tunes which change in the middle of battles depending on the situation of the fight, which is very entertaining. The need for strategy is essential for this game and this adds to the thrill and the challenge.
A seemingly unlimited number of characters to hire for your teams gives the game such an expansive feeling, along with the numerous side quests and Guild tasks. The controls for the PC version are taken from the Xbox 360 version so trying to work out which buttons are which is very difficult but the manual gives you all the conversions so no need to worry! :-)
All in all a cracking game and is a must buy for any Final Fantasy fan... but not just Final Fantasy - any RPG!!!

A really enjoyable game if you like other games such as Assassin's Creed, Mafia or Godfather. With a variety of unlockables, weapons, explosives, vehicles, etc, this game cannot fail to disappoint!
Although the free-running and building climbing is not as easily executed by the character, it just adds to the realism of it all. Go around sabotaging Nazi installations such as AA Guns, Fuel Depots, Propaganda Posts, Railway Bridges, German Armour Divisions, and much much more!
You can choose a variety of ways to complete your missions - be it how to get into a place, how to kill a target, how to get away, etc. For 26.99 this is a decent bargain and well worth a play just for the novelty of the Irish banter that you get from the main character. I recommend this as a great game, especially if you like WW2 set games.
I would like to give this a 4.5 stars, however, as the swimming element in the game is very badly put together and looks completely unreal. But, you very rarely need to go in the water in this game so it will not really affect you. Make sure you have a good set of system specs before buying this though.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Intense, addictive, action packed, comical, dramatic - all the things you need in a game. Easy gameplay, multitude of new weapons, and a new stealth element makes for an enjoyable experience. The cinematics are just incredible but then you realise that you are controlling Drake when something big is happening which makes it a lot more than just sit back and watch something major happen - you are a part of it!
Albeit shorter than the first game, it is nonetheless one of the most enjoyable games out on the PS3 to date! A must buy for anyone! Out of 5 stars I would love to give it 10 or higher!!! Mind blowing game with out of this world graphical sequences!!! I just want to keep droning on about how incredible it is but the only way to believe me fully and see where I am coming from is to buy it yourself!!! GET PURCHASING!!!
Taken: Extended Harder Cut

I saw this in the cinema and enjoyed it. The action was really entertaining and is always good for quenching one's need to see action and brutality. Unfortunately, the storyline is not built upon very well and lets the film down. This is not one of Liam Neeson's best roles and he hated doing the film in the first place... and it shows! He plays the part very well but the storyline was quite weak to be honest!
Tom Clancy's EndWar: Limited Edition (With Official Sony PS3 Wireless Headset)
After seeing the trailers and a video of the Ubisoft girls testing it - it looked incredible. Players are certainly kept on their toes and never given much of a rest from the action. It is like a war - WW3 as a matter of fact lol.
The voice recognition is a handy thing to have as it saves time with deployment and messing about doing it manually. Although the recognition is slightly off (When you say the number "2" it recognises it as a "10" or an "8") but it is easily rectified. I would recommend this to any strategy player... but it could be a little cheaper to be honest.
