  1.  A bit hit n miss

    Posted:

As a collector of 'series' of horrors, to try and get the full catalogues etc etc, I just had to buy this film.
And despite the negative comments from some of my fellow reviewers I have to say that, as far as I'm concerned, the film is so far removed from the Lector films for 90% of it's duration, that it gets to a point where, in my opinion, you start to forget there is a connection.
Personally I think that it is worth a watch and the main reason that it is marked down is because of the association with the other films.
Although, do not expect the same level of horror, as to me this is more of a thriller than a horror, and therefore think that it is being a lil' misreported by calling it so.
Which in itself creates a level of disappointment to those expecting it.

Truthfully, it's not a bad watch, so don't be put off.

  2.  20 yrs on and still one of the classics.

I'm not going to bore you with too much detail about this film, suffice to say that after an amazing 20 years, I still rate it as one of the 'classics'. It's a genuinely original film which has tried to be replicated since, but yet to be mached.
At the time it was heralded as a master, and I still tend to agree. Yes it may be a liitle worn around the edges, but that can be forgiven for the still gripping storyline and pretty good effects.

If you ask me, a must for all horror collections.

  3.  Good Ole Fashioned Film

I have to start by apologising, unfortunately I'm a big Sid Haig fan (Devil's Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses) and he is the main reason I bought this film. He is a good old fashioned horror actor, twisted ,mad and funny all rolled in to one.
And I have to say that he ticks the boxes again..... And I suppose in fairness, the truth of the matter is that I probably wouldn't be giving this film 4 stars if it wasn't for Sid. But it is quite funny in places and does harp back to the monster/slasher films of the late 80's and early 90's.
The 'creature' is different to say the least, and the story is a little silly, but you can forgive that just because of the air of nostalgia and olde worlde horror (anyone ever question the boy in the lake in Friday the 13th?) that surrounds it.

Basically, as long as you take this film for what it is, I'm sure you'll enjoy it (I hope!!).

  4.  Sorry ... but to me it was just too disjointed!

I know this is a very popular film and fellow reviewers really rate it, and that is exactly the reason I bought this film.
Firstly I have to say that the effects really were of a high standard, I have seen more gruesome, but still they do have the 'wince' factor (It's always good when a film makes you think about being in that situation).
My only issue, which is why I have reduced it to a 3 star rating, is because I can't help thinking it's all a bit disjointed. The opening scene is a bit confusing and doesn't really add anything to the film, nor does the warehouse scene nor the hospital. I just think it carries you to too many places with no real reason.
But once they get to the hostel (the similarity ends there) then that's when it starts to get better.

Overall I enjoyed Frontiers, it's just a tad bitty in places.

  5.  Ok but there's better out there

I hate to contradict some of the other reviewers, but I have to say I was really disappointed with this film. I bought this, admittedly as it's cheap and I like to find bargains, but also because the reviews advised that it was a half decent film.
I have to say that I was wholly disappointed in truth. It has to be said that I found the film to be really slow and although some of the effects were half decent, there just wasn't any of the promised scares and excitement. Yes the Africa idea is original unfortunately there isn't enough horror to carry it through.
Take it from me, there are better out there.

  6.  Good Ole Fashioned Horror

I know there are other reviewers who were disappointed with this film, but like some of the others I saw this years ago and when I saw it on the list I felt a twinge of nostalgia as I remember watching it when I was younger.
Anyway, I was a lil' dubious as I too have purchased films from my youth only to be disappointed. However with Razorback, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.Yes the idea is a silly one, and yes the acting at times may be a lil' wooden, but to me it was well worth the money, just to see a good old fashioned horror/thriller from the 80's.
It is the sort of film that doesn't take itself seriously, nor should you, accept it for what it is and enjoy.

  7.  One word ..... Brilliant!!

I was recently asked what my top 3 films were. I sat there for a minute thinking about my favourite films, and I have to say that I couldn't do it, I had too many. But I know something, this film was definitely one of them.
This a low-budget british film, but I think the scariest thing about it, is ... it could happen to any of us..... and thta is a scary thought!!!!
One of my favourite films, a must for your collections!!

  8.  Ok.....

I have to say, contrary to some of the other comments from the guys, I was a little disappointed with this film. It was clever in the way it was filmed and the gory scenes were good and realistic, but at times it was a bit repetitive and a little predictable.
Not the worst film I have seen by any means, but I've also seen better. Sorry for being a lil' indifferent but not a film to shout about.... in my view.

  9.  Definitely in my Top 10

At this point in time, this is the only film I have given a 5* rating, there are better out there but not many.
It has everything a classic film requires, an original storyline, good horror and a lil' humour thrown in for good measure (the tug of war scene is particularly funny!!)
It's a must have for all horror buffs!!

  10.  More Like Four & A Half Stars!!

This is an excellent film well worth the money, it was good to see some new inventive methods of revenge (I won't give to much away). But it was a good remake, in fact I'd almost say better than the original as it had a fuller storyline. Definitely recomend it!!
