  1.  my number one book of all time...

    Posted:

I have been a fan of Alice Sebold for a good number of years, and have read this book hundreds of times. It is breath taking, and every time I read it I discover new and more beautiful things. The story is heart breaking but so expertly written. I have not yet seen the film and to be perfectly honest I am very surprised they have made one, as this book is so complex that I can't imagine how well it will translate onto the screen. For me, this is one best left to the imagination, so I would advise everyone to read the book rather than watch the film. It is a fantastic book for all, and trust me, once you pick it up you will not put it down! I highly recommend Sebold's other novels, however The Lovely Bones will always be number in my book!

  2.  Very enjoyable...

I read this book in under a day as it was totally addictive. I have recently read 'Confessions of a working girl' but would recommend this over that any day. It is fascinating and funny, gritty and beautiful, and most importantly totally believable. Crushes the competition...

  3.  Shocking and fantastic...

Much better than many of its counterparts, I really enjoyed this book. I am not easily shocked but this book deff took my breath away in parts. Gritty but also beautiful it is most deffinately worth a read...

  4.  Hmmm...

I've read a few books along these lines and I must say I am not at all convinced. It was funny in parts but Tbh I think most of it is rubbish.

If you really like this type of thing then I would suggest 'The Sexual Life of Catherine M' and 'One Hundred strokes of the brush before bed' as these are much more entertaining and realistic...

  5.  There is only one word...

    INCREDIBLE!!!

If you buy one book this year it should be this one...

  6.  My Bible...

I have read this book at least 50 times, have been through 5 copies and I still can't get enough. I refer to it as my Bible and would urge absolutely everyone to read it!!

Not only is it a fascinating story and insight into the life of Wurtzel but the wirting is superb. I laughed and cried hysterically and was utterly touched by her incredible poise and ability to relate this difficult memoir to almost anyone.

I'm not going to lie - it can be a difficult read but when I was diagnosed with depression I gave a copy of this book to my friends and family and told them to read it. Nothing has ever touched my life in such a dramatic way and it has helped many to at least attempt to understand my condition.

If you scare easily then maybe this isn't for you, but if like me you want something to relate to, or you are just looking for a fascinating read then Prozac Nation cannot be beaten...

  7.  Brilliant...but the book is better...

I must have read the book 50 times and refer to it as my Bible, so was very eager to see the film. Christina Ricci is perfect as Wurtzel, as she actually resembles her. I can see why people wouldn't like this film as it can be quite slow in places, but having read the book I had a true understanding and appreciation for the story. As it goes, it is interesting and enjoyable, however I would urge everyone to read the book!! The film only touches on 10% of the story and you simply cannot get a good picture of what Wurtzel was going through. Just watch the film and I can see exactly why people would wonder what all the fuss was about as it doesn't in anyway explain her spiral into depression, or the reasons behind it.

If you liked the book then deffinately give the film a watch but don't expect miracles. I have given it 4 stars purely for the acting and the story that it is based on, but wouldn't say it stands up very well on it's own...

  8.  meh...

Tbh I bought it not expecting much and I'm kinda glad I didn't. It's ok if you don't mind lots of strategically placed plants etc. but if you want penetration shots and more hardcore then I wouldn't bother. I quite enjoyed some of it and Ron Jeremy makes a brilliant appearance but it's deff not XXX...

  9.  excellent...

I have a copy of this book as I was taught GCSE latin by Barbara Bell and I can highly recommend it. It is brilliant for anyone starting out, clear and concise with fantastic illustrations. I would also get a copy of the audio CD as this adds so much to the experience (plus I am the voice of 2 of the characters!) I loved the experience of being involved in this project, so all in all deffinitely worth it, I feel so famous!!
