  1.  Sooooo funny I should give it two stars.

Where to start? Tom Hanks accent is worse than a Guy Ritchie casting session, was that Cockney or Irish Tom? A dodgy accent I hear you say, is that the worst of it? Not by a long shot. Near 3 hour ride from nowhere to nowhere with the ever so subtle Gran Ma Rasta of Ms Berry falling for White trash plantation speak Hanks in the uber cheese fest of a role reversal.

  2.  An engaging journey through film

I just wanted to provide a little balance to the review of this series.

Though the series is not always shot in a broadcast style it does allow Cousins the scope to get some truly remarkable interviews from film producers and directors that would not have been possible with a huge crew.

It does contain great analysis of shooting styles, composition, use of lenses, framing, art direction and many other invaluable insights. The series also covers much of the new digitally enhanced fantasy films of the more recent past so I can only assume that the other reviewer didn't actually watch the whole series.

The series is well researched and unashamedly high brow at points but not pretentious, just in depth.

I found it a compelling offer to any one who has ever picked up a camera from established industry folk to newcomers and I will be using it as a great addition to teaching film theory and production.

I suspect it will become the defacto standard for film history as Shock of the New is to art history.
