  1.  A Social History course in one package.

    Posted:

Brillant archive footage of life in Britain between 1930 to the early 1950`s. Government made inspirational footage which depicts both the positive aspects and also the deprivation of the period. Captivating footage which will fascinate anyone who enjoys black and white archive films.

  2.  Brilliant 1950`s BBC TV Series.

    Posted:

15 half hour episodes on 3 DVD discs, this series will captivate anyone interested in 50`s documentaries. Compiled from thousands of feet of cine film footage from 1930 to 1950, the series focuses on the role of the RAF prior to, during and after the 2nd World War. Made by the BBC in conjunction with the Air Ministry and other Government departments the film is factual with no frills and is superbly narrated. Footage of the effect of the air campaign on both British and German civilians is also quite extensive. Unlike some Government films of the era (e.g. Land Of Promise) there is no `propaganda material` designed to lift spirits during a time of war. Tells it as it was, brillant black and white film.

  3.  Five Star Music, First Class release from Bryan Ferry.

Studio recording of Dylan compositions admirably served up by Bryan Ferry. Ferry is a specialist in stamping his own style on original songs and backed by a fantastic line up he does a great job on this DVD. One hour of quality entertainment, dont miss this one !

  4.  A fascinating view of life in the Rhineland (Hunsruck) .

    Posted:

This film chronicles the life of three main families in the ficticious village of Schabbach in the Rhineland. The Simon, Wiegand and Schirmer families provide the main character base and covers the period 1919-1982. Eleven episodes long and over 15 hours makes this a daunting viewing but is so compulsive that it is hard to not watch the`next episode`. One of a trilogy of films directed by Edgar Reitz this first` Heimat` (Homeland) has become something of a cult among travellers to the Rhine/Mosel area of Germany. English subtitles only with dialog in German does not spoil the enjoyment of a great film, driven by village life and very real characters. Someone learning German may find the local `Hunsrucker` dialect hard going but after listening for a while it does get easier to understand. All in all a film that was highly regarded when it was released in 1982 and becomes compulsive viewing.

  5.  A must read for fans of the "Icons of Rock & Roll"

Roger White writes an entertaining and factual resume of Don & Phil Everly`s extensive career. Endorsed by both brothers this book chronicles their early days in Kentucky through to the Reunion Concert in 1983. Written in an easy to read style this book crams in lots of facts about the Everlys and is complimented with lots of photographs both in concert and off stage. This book will appeal to music lovers in general, comments from Bob Dylan, Dave Edmunds, Tim Rice, Buddy Holly and other famous artists. Great read and well worth buying, enjoy.

  6.  If you liked `Black and White Night` this is for you !

This concert rivals Roy Orbison`s extravaganza for sheer musical pleasure. Some shows just ooze musical excellence and from the Everly`s harmonies to Mark Knopfler and Chets` sublime guitar work this is superb entertainment. Add Michael McDonald and Emmylou Harris to the mix and this becomes fantastic value. If you don`t have it, treat yourself and get it, it`s that good !

  7.  From start to finish the best concert recording ever.

For me the only thing missing from this musical extravaganza was the inclusion of the Everly Brothers who would have complimented this fantastic concert. That apart, this is musical professionalism at it`s best. What an incredible line up of musicians and backing singers, and with Orbison at the helm just magnificent. Quality recording, both sound and vision, if you don`t have it, then go get it, you will not be disappointed and at this price an absolute steal.

  8.  Best Everly Albums Ever ?

During the so called` lean years `of the early to mid Sixties, Don and Phil Everly recorded some of their best ever music. This Warner double album represents a compilation of their incredible songs and should not be missed by music lovers. A mix of rock, country and ballads that reinforces the title of `best harmony singers` ever. Fantasic value and a must buy CD.
