The epitome of the 'slow-burner'
Been listening to the new album now for about a week after getting hold of an advanced copy and must say it is really rather good. This marks another step in the Kings' evolution into a fully fledged next generation rock-band.
The Southern-rock style of the first two albums is almost completely gone, replaced by atmospehric riffs, huge bass-lines and experimentation with new instruments. Caleb's vocals are increasingly excellent and along with the inclusion of more bacground vocals than ever before this is a key element in this new Kings' style.
Overall this is the kind of album that will slow burrow itself into your sub-conscious rather than explode in your face on the first listen. Key tracks....'Crawl' (the rockiest it gets on this album'), 'Use Somebody' (The best thing they've ever recorded?) and 'Revelry' (Their best ballad to date). For me, 'Because of the times' is the slightly better album, but I'm sure that will change in a couple weeks.
