  1.  Brilliant series but mastered by clowns

5 stars for the series however the bluray mastering is pants. What's the point of an HD format when the studio has crammed as many episodes as possible onto a disc so that the picture quality is effectively just a little better then DVD? It may have 1080 pixels but that's about it, detail is very poor even affecting skin tones, checking the data rate this drops in places to a little over 50% more than the DVD max, and yet has to support many more pixels. Thankfully the DTS soundtrack is at least better then DVD can achieve.

The series deserved much better treatment!

  2.  Good but be careful

OK, here we have the latest version of Fritz, the chess software that has been one of the top engines for many many years offered at a very nice discount!

The GUI will be vary familiar to anyone who owns one of the previous versions with only the addition of the 3d eye which I found to be less then useful.

For newbies to the series this software is quite easy to get use and most actions will be fairly obvious to you.

Strength wise unless you're a World Champion Fritz will wipe you off the board period. Thankfully you can make the engine play at a much lower level and even have the software tune itself to be just above you, giving you a chance to improve. You can even have Fritz analyse your own games and suggest improvements.

The 3D graphics are excellent but most people will stick with the 2D view which is a paragon of clarity.

The GUI gives you access to the Fritz Media family of training lessons (available as extra DVD's at a cost) and come bundled with quite a few sample videos to give you a flavour of what's possible.

Now the only word of warning - this cut price version of Fritz can give you a new account on playchess, the internet chess server for playing opponents or even other computers that's valid for 3 months only (if you don't have one already). If you already have a playchess account then this software will not extend your subscription! This is the complete opposite of the previous versions (9 & 10) which gave you a full year or extended existing subs by a year also.

This aside no serious chess player, club level and beyond is without a version of Fritz on their machine and you can buy with confidence that this is a quality product
