This film gets bad reviews because of the way it was marketed. It's sure to disappoint people who expect an out and out action film and need something to 'happen' every 3 minutes to keep their attention. It's a shame because it's actually a really good film that's more of a road movie mixed with a hint of Lost in Translation that happens to have monsters in it. Definitely worth a watch unless you have the attention span of a 4 year old.

I didn't have very high expectations for this film but found it to be really quite original and well acted. It manages to be very different to a lot of horror films out at the moment without trying too hard. I thought the lead role was very impressive, managing to be hideous but still provoking a slither of pity for her. I loved the tone of the film and how the film makers balanced the gore and horror with looking at characters outside of the situation and how they are affected. Well worth watching.

This is one of my favourite Ang Lee films. It's a subtle and beautiful film and acted and directed brilliantly. It's definitely worth watching if you like good films.
I would ignore the two bad reviews for this film, or at least look at the other films they have rated - one gives films such as Norbit, Honey and Kevin and Perry Go Large 5 stars and the other one only seems to like action films - and bad ones at that. Need I say more.
