  1.  Persist and you will love it...

    Posted:

Firstly - this review is based on the demo...

When I first played the demo I was left very underwhelmed (graphics and sound aside)... I couldn't pass, I couldn't shoot, and I couldn't get into it at all...

I kept at it and then realised I should stop playing it like Fifa 10! The more I played it the more I loved it... The through passes arn't as easy as FIFA 10 and there are a couple of small niggles with it being a Demo, however, I must have played 30 or so games not and I can honestly say it's the best football game I have played thus far... Once you get into it you realise just how good it is... You need to think about what you do and who you pass too - it really is the most realistic game I have played to date!

Passing - The passing is excellent and it really depends who you are (player wise) as to how accurate and easy it is to pass. No more 1st time 30 yard passes without looking by a carthorse center half! Takes a while to get used too but once you do it's fantastic...

Shooting - At last you can rattle them in and hit low shots with real power. Like passing it takes a while to let used too but once you do the shooting system becomes second nature.

Player dynamics - Strength and power do come in to play along with skill... Players like Puyol can bounce lesser forwards out the way while skill players like Ronaldo perform dribbles and close control with the left stick (without the skill button pressed and with it pressed for additional skill moves) to glide past players... I really do see a difference with the personality pro with player attributes as well as passing and shooting...

Over all, a couple of demo niggles aside, I think this will be a must buy for any serious footy fan...

  2.  A feel a tremor in the force (in the other Star Wars games)

    Ok - here goes...

I am unsure what some people are after with Star Wars games. I suppose it may be perfection - like the original 3 movies...

Looking at this game objectively it could be described as a repetitive platform game, however; you need to look deeper! The game is visually stunning (and I mean STUNNING) and the sound is fantastic. Add to this the fantastic story that bridges the gap between Episodes III and IV and it's a winner. It's every kids dream to weald a lightsaber and move objects with the power of the force - and this game lets you do this... Granted, I am only half way though (if that) the game but I am having a blast with it... I find the fighting and force using techniques easy to use and effective, the visuals and sound are amazing, the story is fantastic, and the game is fun - and surely that's important.... As much as it is fun though the game is set in the same dark vain as the Empire Strikes back - and that's a really good thing!

In short, no mater what Lucas Arts do they will NEVER make a Star Wars game that makes all Star Wars fans happy. Even non Star Wars fans have high expectation because of the franchise!

Bottom line is that (in my opinion) this is a good game and a welcome and much needed addition to the existing Star Wars games. There is a tremor in the force - and the other Star Wars games should be worried, as no one will be buying them once they've played this!

My actual rating would be 3 and a half stars - but as they don't do that I feel the game is worthy of a (rounding up) 4 Star Review as it's certainly not a 3...

Best Star Wars game to date!

  3.  Fifa 09 (Demo) Review...

    Posted:

I downloaded the demo last night - and I was impressed, very impressed...

Gone is the sluggishness of FIFA 08, and you're players actually move towards the ball to pick up passes rather than stand aimlessly waiting for the ball.

It's similar to EA Sports Euro 2008 - which is a good thing. However, there are noticeable differences. It doesn't play quite as arcade like as Euro 2008, the passing is more refined, and the fluidity of the game is fantastic...

I was into Pro-Evo, however; FIFA has upped it's game every year for a while now where (in my opinion) Pre Evo has stagnated... Fifa 09 (based on the demo) is BY FAR the best Fifa so far and will probably be the start of Fifa's dominance of the football gaming market.

If EA sports keep improving these games by FIFA 10 the gap will be huge.

This game plays like a dream, and couple that with all the added features that will be in the full game - well, I think we have a winner... Well done EA for listening to the comments and criticism over the last few years and taking note!

  4.  How long have we waited for this... And it will be worth it!

Comedy of this quality is timeless... I haven't been this excited about a DVD release since 12 Angry Men with Hendy Honda... Or the last Davy Bond movie...

I've pre-ordered my DVD and booked a 1st class ticket to StoneyBridge, with it's stoney bridge...

    I can't wait!!!

  5.  WOW!

    Posted:

My first though of this was "money spinner" but it really isn't... There are a few good changes in this game and some new features like "be a captain" etc which allows you to pick a team, play as just one player (not like the silly be a pro on FIFA08 where you have a "Gears of War" type player view) looking at the pitch side on (as usual)... You can also pick teams that didn't qualify (Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales etc) and play them into the finals...

I must admit that I am a Fifa nut... I used to be into PES but grew up ;-) Fifa over the last couple of years has made leaps and bounds... They have really improved the gameplay and kept the fantastic visuals... FIFA 08 was an excellent attempt and they really are now geting to grips with how football plays and what it means to the fans...
It's like they have taked the best bits from FIFA 07 and 08 and made a really good playable game... If EA continue to progress as they are then FIFA 09 is gonna be AMAZING... This game (demo) plays really well and looks teh business - Well done EA!

  6.  It's Vegas Jim, but not as we know it (or is it)...

    Posted:

I must say that I really loved Rainbow Vegas and hoped that they wouldn't spoil the 2nd one, and they haven't... It's set in a slightly less glamorous part of Vegas but does fleet between this setting and the stereotypical Vegas settings of the last game. It's quite good that you are almost playing the game in parallel with Logan's team (from the first game) and that you eventually get to finish the fight (pardon the Halo pun...) My only gripe is that it isn't different enough... Graphically it looks the same, which is really good, however, games like COD4 and Mass Effect have really raised the bar graphically so maybe they should have taken note of this...

On the upside, it plays like the last one. In fact, it is a complete dream to play! They still have the fantastic cover system (TAKE NOT COD MAKERS ;-) ) and moving the team around is as easy as ever. In short, if you liked the first one you will like the 2nd one. It's great to play and does exactly what I says on the tin...

  7.  Earth Story - Excellent DVD

    Posted:

This is a double DVD that takes you through the story of the Earth by looking at geology through the eyes of a biologist (Aubrey Manning).
The whole DVD is excellently produced and well written, with Aubrey Manning's enthusiasm and story telling enthralling. The DVD's are factual, however, the way the story is told keeps you comletely submersed. I have always enjoyed documentaries (Blue Planet, and Planet Earth etc) and this is one of the best out there.

5 stars from me and I only wish Aubrey Manning had more DVD's like this out there. I could listen to his facts and theories all day - and then some....

    Great buy!!!!
