I get the idea of this, they're trying to make a sitcom that pokes fun at shallow poorly-produced sitcoms. But it spends too much time trying to look like one, so what little satire it has is lost amongst the terrible plots and wooden acting.
It reminds me of Ricky Gervais's "When The Whistle Blows", a purposely diabolical sitcom he is forced to produce in the second series of 'Extras'. The clips we saw were not funny, it was incredibly annoying to watch, but it proved a point. Mrs Brown's Boys has taken the idea, added lots of swearing and slapstick, and blown it out it to fill an entire series.
