Best Of Both Worlds (2CD)
Marillion - CD

This album is superb. I thought i was a Marillion fan, but only with Fish. Don't make the same mistake - Steve Hogarth is fantastic and there are some superb post Fish songs in here.
The best songs on the album are Script for a Jesters Tear, Hotel Hobbies & Sugar Mice - on account of the sheer beauty, intensity, menace, anguish and personal sentiment that Fish can put into his songs. Indeed the best disc is the first one with Fish, but the second disc is a slow burning belter of a disc - i listened to it, decided it was not my thing and basically discarded it. It was months later before i stuck it on again and had it playing in the background. Doing that, certain songs came to the fore in the same way as you would pick up on some songs playing on the radio. Now i find i am playing it continuously, learning lyrics, scouring the Marillion website and keeping an eye out for them touring. Hopefully i'll get some time off in December and see them playing The Ferry in Glasgow.

This album just oozes class. Musically it is just wonderful - beautiful, melodic, light, haunting, powerful......a whole mix of emotions. Once you grasp the lyrics then you will find real depth and meaning to them - it is simply amazing. There are a number of stand out songs based merely on the sound coming out of the speakers, but once you are familiar with the album then you will realise that the whole album is a story, a means to an end and an absolute masterpiece of the collective talents of this fantastic band. A must have album!!
