  1.  Absolutely brilliant

I actually had a ticket to see this at the Royal Albert Hall but unfortunately circumstances prevented me from getting there. Along with my daughter I also saw it live in the the cinema ( the demand was so great they opened a second screening ) and this was the next best thing, absolutely brilliant in all aspects. My daughter knew the music but had never seen the show or film and she was blown away by it, a trip to see it live in the theatre is definitely on the cards, as is the DVD - good job those things don't wear out ! This is THE must-have of 2011.

  2.  Boring and ponderous

Having read all the ( mainly ) glowing reviews about this film I felt I had to see it in the cinema rather than on a television set and am I glad I did - at least I only wasted a third of the money I would otherwise have spent on buying the DVD. Expecting a rollercoaster ride of emotion, passion and excitement, it was more like a ride on a canal barge but not so exciting ( no disrespect implied or intended to canal barge devotees ). I've only ever once walked out of the cinema before the end of a film ( Pulp Fiction ) but this came extremely close to being the second. As for needing a box of tissues, all I needed was a hand to stifle the yawns. The only redeeming thing about this film was the superb photography and recreation of 1930's Britain. Don't waste your money on this DVD, wait until it's shown on the box and judge for yourselves.

  3.  Virtually "unputdownable" ( see review for reason )

I came across this book ( and Die For Me, which I ordered at the same time ) browsing the Summer Sale selection and, although never having heard of Karen Rose, decided to buy it based on the low price, story synopsis and reader review. I've just finished it and what a fantasic five and half euros worth it was. Towards the end I had to keep putting it down, not only because the excitement and emotion was getting to me, but also because I didn't want it to finish. Once I've recovered I'll be making a start on DFM and afterwards undoubtedly be ordering more of KR's titles - with an imagination like that I'm not sure I'd like to meet her on a dark night !
