Spiderman 3 for the Playstation 3 offers almost identical gameplay, and has little more to offer despite being the whats called 'superior console'. First off, lets get down to the core of the revew.
Everyone loves spidey right? Well obviously. Everyone has had the occasional dream of being Spiderman. Or is it just me? Anyway, the closest way to 'become' Spiderman is through the games. And this game succeeds well.
Spiderman 3 is a non-linear game, (which basically means you can do or go almost anywhere or do anything you want), and instead of the basic free-roaming style game, you are Spiderman and your main means of travelling the streets is by web action! And this game does this alot better than it's predecessor (which was also great). The swinging animation is perfect and flawless. This makes the game what it is, a Crackdown killer. This game offers many entertaining side-missions to complete, but also the occasional street fight which you need to stop, and the crimes around the city to sort out. This game offers alot more replay value than other games of it's genre.
The fun doesn't stop there, with the upgrades that are purchaseable, and the story missions to complete, there is alot to this game. The city looks nice, with nice reflections off the building and spiderman does look great whilst swinging.
However, it's not all great. There are many flaws to this game, such that the framerate is pretty poor. And whats more important, is it's even worse than the game on the Xbox 360's. This could probably be because it's a port, or a port. The framerate is frustrating. The oddjump will screw with your mind, and put you off course.
However, what's worse is the camara. This is probably the most irritating part of Spiderman 3. The camara is very different to Spiderman 2's fixed angle, and now follows spiderman as he swings. Sure this isn't that bad, but it's controlling that angle that really gets on your nerves. Sometimes you will be fighting enemies, not being able to see where they are. Or even worse, find yourself stuck in a place where you can't discover how to get out. This game offers a few glitches, that are quite nerving.
Sadly, it doesn't stop there. The storyline. Sure, it will keep you going but it's generally poorly done. The cutscenes look embarrasing to look at, considering we are now in a next-generation of gaming. But also, the fighting. This is very simple, and really just a button-smashing mash up. Thats fine for some, but for others, that is not enough to entertain. Spiderman 3 also offers a new type of gameplay, to try and pull you away from the button smah up. This is the 'click the onscreen button' that marvel ultimate alliance offers. This is alright in small doses, but the game seems to spring it upon you every few cutscenes.
The PS3 version is perhaps a little poorer than the xbox 360's, but does offer very slightly improved graphics. However, this doesn't make up for the old-generation cutscene cringeful graphics. But everyone always says, gameplay beats graphics. So perhaps the framerate lets it down a little.
The green goblin.. in special GAME store editions. This is the version I have early, and to be honest you are better off buying the Play.com version. The addition character, The Green Goblin, offers relatively boring gameplay and is not that fun playing with the six axis. With little to do, and just a few cool moves, I would call it a pass. Nothing beats swinging, than gliding.
However, enough moaning. Many people who look to buy this game, find themself more interested in swinging the city doing these random crimes, races, and more. Spiderman 3 is a great game, just it has it's flaws.
