  1.  Pop Princess is back on top!

    Posted:

I've been fortunate enough to be given a copy of the full album by a friend who works for a local radio station and I have to say I stopped buying Kylie's albums after 'Fever', or at least I think it was called that.

Aphrodite is a refreshing change and takes her right back to her roots, so to speak. There is something for everyone on this album and has many writers who she has collaborated with, most notably Tim Rice and Nerina Pallot who is a singer/songwriter in her own right.

The album begins with All The Lovers, her first debut single from Aphrodite and is a great lead into the album

Get Outta My Way is very upbeat positive dance track.

Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)is very bouncy and will have your toes tapping and maybe have you dancing around your living room.....or maybe not

Closer is interesting as it starts off slow and quickly builds momentum.

Everything Is Beautiful is co-written by Tim Rice and is a beautiful ballad (the term ballad should be used lightly)and is definitely slower than the previous tracks.

The title track, Aphrodite, written by Nerina Pallot, seems to have been written with Kylie in mind. You'll understand once you've listened to the lyrics. Great drum intro and disco sounding track.

Illusion has a great vocal introduction and is one of my favourite off the album and is a more traditional Kylie song of old.

Better Than Today is the second track written by Nerina Pallot and you can imagine her singing this track. Great lyrics and great music. Very catchy.

Too Much is co-written by Kylie and has undertones of the techno music. Not my favourite but it is a grower.

Cupid Boy has great atmosphere and good strong lyrics.

Looking For An Angel starts with an orchestral intro and is a very good pop song.

Can't Beat The Feeling is a great track to wrap the album up with it complimenting the open track.

Kylie's vocals have never been strong and over the years she has presented us with some fantastic pop songs. Her vocal range is limited but its still as good as it's always been and in my opinion this is just as equally as good as Impossible Princess and compliments her earlier work very well indeed.

Buy it - you won't regret it!

If in doubt download the Aphrodite Mini-Mix and take a listen as it will give you a real taster to the album. Buy it - you won't regret it!

  4.  The Nexus One Rules!!!

    Posted:

One reviewer says wait for the HTC Desire? Why? The Desire will be a good phone but won't include the noise cancelling microphone which is one of the main features of the Nexus One.
I believe the Nexus One is the best Android device to date (beating the Desire)
If you want a phone which can:
    multi-task
    multi-touch touch screen
Google Map Navigation (via Android Market for free)
    5MP camera
    Noise Cancelling microphone
up to 32GB micro sd card
    fast connection to the internet
and more features than I can name here.
Android is updated regularly (unlike another phone I could mention) and is fast becoming the leader in the mobile phone market.

There are phones and then there is the Nexus One. A leader in it's own right.

I've owned this phone for over four months now and I have yet to experience the lag problems the other reviewer has experienced.

  5.  Original? Come on now....

    Posted:

As good as Avatar is it is by no means original.

Let's see....man invades/wants something that he wants to take from the 'savages', the man responsible believes in the mission at hand, until he meets the people he has learnt to hate are actually good people and respects them and falls in love and then because he no longer believes in the mission he is hunted down by his own people.

Has anyone not heard of the story of Pochahontas? It is the SAME story but instead of America we have Pandora and instead of Indians we have the Na'vi.

Don't get me wrong I believe the film is visually stunning and fantastically shot but the story is by no means 'original' and in fact is weak compared to the factual and historical story of Pochahontas.

    Thought it was worth mentioning.

  6.  Well worth the wait!

I've been waiting for this for sometime since Acer first announced they were going to adapt the Android OS from the mobile phone to a netbook. Forget all the 'tech' reviews you've read. Yes there is no Word Processor software and no you can't download a word doc and open it up in Android as there is no software to enable this.

However what you do is download it, then upload it into your Google Docs account then open it up as you normally would and hey presto you can read your attachment! Unfortunately it doesn't come with Android Market but there are two sites, at least that I know of, Android Apps Store and Insyde Market who offer applications for you to download. Just make sure you use the Android Browser and not the Firefox Browser otherwise your download is 'hidden'.

As an operating system it's quick - boots in less than 18 seconds - it's that quick!

Also Acer have given Android 4GB of the 160GB hard drive so this will become full rather quickly if you download pictures and the ilk (132GB given to Windows 7 the other 'missing' GB taken up by formatting etc.

BBC iPlayer works fine in Android depending on your signal strength (3G) but this shouldn't be a problem over WIFI which it handles more than well.

I am more than impressed at how well Android has been adapted for a Netbook as I love it on my G1.

I haven't tested Windows 7 but if you want a review on that no doubt you can find a review or two on that somewhere here.

Android will tied me over until Google Chrome OS is released sometime next year.

  7.  Eclectic collection works wonders!

    Posted:

This collection features 80 original songs and 20 karaoke tracks not performed by the original artists or endorsed by them.

I bought this as a 'soundtrack' to my Halloween party and my favourite tracks are Amityville, The Time Warp, (Don't Fear) The Reaper, Ghostbusters (of course) and I Put A Spell On You (although I do prefer Bette Midler's version from Hocus Pocus but this is yet to have a release).

Anyone having a Halloween party would be highly recommended to buy this as I doubt you'd find a better collection!

    Enjoy!

  8.  An unbiased review

    Posted:

The 'fanboys' have spoken but here is an unbiased review of what probably is the best series of Torchwood to date. Yes the story could have been covered in one episode, yes the special effects are fantastic in what would appear to be at first glance a so so story, and no, there maybe no more Torchwood but a spinoff maybe in the offing.
Gwen (Eve Myles) isn't as annoying in this series as she was in the other two and I disliked this character greatly, however i have warmed up to her in this series. The acting is good but do we have to have countless scenes with former family members we knew nothing about? Okay, I realise this was to demonstrate how the families of the Torchwood team would be affected and indeed how the team were affected as well but again these scenes only 'padded out' a thin storyline.
That said however it gave you a glimpse on how government may work should they be in a no win situation by deciding which children should live and those who shouldn't. Put another spin on it, which people should receive a vaccine for swine flu and who should not should an outbreak be declared. Interesting.
Without giving too much away, there are some real tear jerker moments and it does leave you thinking 'This is it'. There is no more Torchwood......or is there? Only time will tell.
If you buy this DVD you will NOT be disappointed.

  9.  It's great but doesn't work with all mobile phones!

    Posted:

The images are amazing for the size of the printer and the quality is excellent. You can't expect the same quality from a normal printer but this is fab! Small, light and great to have photos on the go. Be warned however not all mobile phones are compatible. I purchased one to go with my G1 which one mobile pone site said it was compatible so I purchased one from an online auction site for half the price. To my disapointment it isn't.
What I should have done is check the compatibility with Polaroid's Pogo website as it states every mobile phone. The 'cupcake' firmware update was supposed to have an OBEX (bluetooth file transfer) but it didn't have and so cannot connect to the Pogo. Similarly neither can the iPhone for the same reason.
I'm going to keep the Pogo as it connects brilliantly with my digital camera via PicBridge.
My advise before buying check compatibility first and then buy, buy, buy! You won't regret it!
