  1.  Another great RPG from SE

Please don't read reviews when all they base their 1 star score on how rubbish the controls were. Even I KNOW that the controls from Console to PC are going to be hard. I find FPS's on Consoles hard, but rarely do you seen people moaning about them.

    Onto the review:

First off, this game is amazing visually, been a long time since I've enjoyed watching every cut scene in a game. On full High Settings, you can enjoy every aspect to your content.

The voice acting is reasonable, nothing cringe worthy yet, maybe 'Dave' is a bit grinding, but you can't shun a game on one iffy voice.

The battle system is not random combat, most of the time its player controlled, where the player makes an active decision whether to attack or not. Ofcourse you get attacked by monsters, and here is where it gets interesting. If you attack a monster, you get an advantage throughout the fight, however if you are attacked, then you suffer a disadvantage. This moves me onto the battle itself.

The battle screen is a bit daunting at the start, lots of sub screens and menu's but using the arrow keys and ENTER key makes it much easier to use. In the fight, you start off in a sort of group, not individual characters, although they are more noticable. These groups are called Unions, and can be made up on various members, not just the key characters. They have separate moves/turns and act the same as each other. However, be warned that even though you may have 2 (or more) units in a Union, even if one unit is repeatably hit, it spreads out across your entire Union, and you'll find that with Monsters as well. There is the normal "Attack" "Magic" and "Skills" as well as Automated options per turn. However its not a side-view battlefield like previous FF games, but a bit more like Vagrant Story, where positioning on the field can aid or disadvantage you. For example, if you send one Union in to attack one monster group out of three, and your other one to use magic, your firs Union may become flanked, and suffer massive damage and, Morale.

Morale is a new thing for me, where you and the monsters have Morale. However, this isn't the 'Will' of the units, and knocking it down does not make units flee (as far as I know) but gain Morale through Flank Attacks and all your units gain damage boosts and the monsters loose attack power. However loose Morale and you suffer the same, lower damage dealt and more received. There is also "Reaction" events, where you have to hit a certain button (unfortunatly still in Xbox360/PS3 langauge) so it is a pain not being able to hit "X or B" on the keyboard when you don't know where the hell it is. You can also automate this event, but you have only a random chance to succeed in getting the reaction event done. However that being said, it might be better than banging your head on the keyboard praying for the right key in time. Find he right keys tho, and you are sorted. Also, another plus is, that at the end of every battle, you get fully healed :D

However, this game is pretty hard to control, the camera angle can make you feel sick, and the constant "LETS KICK SOME ASS" from Rush can get on your nerves (easily sorted tho). So, apart from the controls, this game is fun to play, different to try, and a breath of fresh air on the PC. Though the controls may push people over the edge, and the camera makes me feel sick anyways (though could just be me). Don't let anything else put you off, you might as well try it out for the price is being sold for these days.

  2.  Amazing - Must have *WARNING - Long Review*

Zombies, one of the oldest horror creations. Throughout the years, the brain chewing has been mixed with neck-ripping and general flesh eating. The causes of zombiefaction are similar: Viruses, rabided animals, government made weapons, cures-that-went-wrong and I believe even alien diseases. What ever the cause, you are bound to see moaning zombies, with blood and gore everywhere. While most games have made zombies slow walking, easy targeted mobs, with the odd "super-fast zombie" (Half-Life 2 for example).

Left 4 Dead gets rid of that cliché, all zombies (or Infected) run towards you, just like normal people. Screaming, and making general noises. If they are not sprinting towards you, they are crying, leaning against walls, shambling around, vomiting, or indeed fighting each other to death.

Now this is where I think the L4D Zombies are brilliant. They are just like 'normal' people, they don't have super sharp teeth that can break your skull or rip your neck open. No, they just run over and start kicking and punching you. If you are knocked over, they will begin to kick you to death. Finally! A game that warrents the players to have a "life bar". As you are only being kicked and punch, it warrents you to be able to take a lot hits from the zombies, instead of you being the bullet-absorbing macho muscle ridden / hot guy character.

On to the characters themselves, they are incredibly believable, well voice acted and are dressed like 'normal' people. No super-mega-awesome armor of awesomeness that has a nuke build in the collar. They are fantastic, and nothing breaks the fear than Francis saying "I hate hospitals...and laywers..." only for Bill to reply "Is there anything you don't hate".

Valve plan to release films on each of their characters and their background. Their names are, Bill, Louis, Francis and Zoey. Bill is an old 'war veteran' who smokes. Louis is an office worker, and has a similar look to that of Shaun in Shaun of the Dead. Francis is a typical macho muscle guy, who is a biker. While Zoey is a 'attractive' girl, who sounds 'hot' as well as 'looks'. You get to choose one of these characters in the game Lobby, and they are all similarly adapted and blowing a zombie head off (In spectacular style!).

There are three modes, Single Player, Campaign Mode and Verus Mode. There are five maps, all are playable in Solo mode and Campaign Co-op mode. All 'campaigns' are split into several maps.Unfortunatly only two are availble in Versus mode. Which is a shame, as all the maps are awesome, and Versus mode is the best mode of them all.

Speaking of Versus mode. This is a brilliant idea, not only do you play as the Survivours, but you play as the Super-Zombies (boss). These are 'special' zombies which have different looks and abilities to other 'normal' zombies, each are fun to play and are even more fun when your working together to kill your friends. The special zombies are: Hunter - Fast, high jumping hoodie zombie, that pounce on survivours and rip their skin off. Smoker - Long tounge that pulls survivours towards them and drains their life. Boomer - Vomits on players which summons a horde to come attack the target. It also blinds the survivours when it explodes near them. Tank - The best one of them all, big and powerful, able to life up scenary and throw it, take lots of hits, and hit cars towards people. You swap teams at the end of each 'level' so no hogging on zombie side. The Witch is an unplayable Special Zombie, but She is very powerful, when you buy the game, you'll see why.

Over all, this game is amazing. Not enough characters in this review to explain it. Only poor points are limited maps in versus mode and weapons.

The humble MMO. Recently been controled by the giant that is World of Warcraft. Although there is constant slating of this game, people cannot deny its great success, and gathering over 9 million subscribers across the globe.

AoC is another MMO, but with a twist, the combat system has been radically changed, no more is there pressing "1 & 2" if you see what I mean. The nudity and gore adds a certain maturity into the game, however, believers in this removing the 14 year olds, will be WRONG.

In a recent government survey, 75% of parents who were asked why they bought a 18 rated / Mature game for their child answered "I thought it meant skill level". Decapitation and pixleated breasts will win you friends in the playground, but will loose you them at work. So, be prepared for them flowing in once reviewed by major reviewing establishments.

If you are looking for something different, and do not mind the gore, then this is the game for you. I would not say it is the BEST MMO ever, nor the best around, but since WoW is getting old and tired, it looks like this young gun might muscle its way in. The voice acting adds flair to it, but with more and more of this being put in MMO's its hardly anything ground shattering. The animations of running is a bit strange, and can look jagged. The faces are ragged as you can remember from the old Arnie film, and this adds to its "realism". You would need a medium-high end machine to get the best out of it.

Time will tell, MMO companies rely on magazines and reviwers giving them good scores, since the forking out of £30 and then £9.99 a month can frighten people.

If you are looking for a change from WoW, this, indeed could be it, or you could wait until Warhammer: AoR or perhaps Aion: Tower of Eternity.
