  1.  Strange but true.

Really enjoyed this - without giving too much away, this is a really strange but true story involving a trickster who managed to lie his way into a family who's son went missing.I kept thinking how crazy this all was as this should never have been allowed to happen. All concerned here are guilty stupidity.I am not sure this would be a film/doc i would go back to in time. worth a watch though but it does feel like a made for tv documentary you would catch on one of the discovery channels, very well made though....

  2.  Really dissapointing..

I was really looking forward to this.Woody Harrelson normally churns out top films.I found this to bo soooo booooring - very little action, story was some what confusing at times and even the top notch actors in this could not save it.I stuck through this even though my hand wavered over the fast forward button at times. The ending left everything up in the air and for love or money I can never get the wasted time i spent on this back.Total waste of time..

  3.  Average to say the least..

Firstly I truly loved the original version. This version which I watched in the cinema did have some merit and some excitement but compared to the original it simply falls flat.Sam Peckinpah's version for it's time was brutal and contained nudity, this version contained some violence and tense situations - no nudity by Kate Bosworth here and the rape scene was no where near as graphic as the original. It seems this version is simply to tame.I am surprised this is getting an 18 rating as I have seen much stronger 15 rated films recently .There are a few differences here and not to give too much away - some of the character names as with the original remain the same and the story has moved to America. This started out on the right track but then feels hurried, when it came to the end I felt cheated big time.My advice would be to just watch the original again...

  4.  Get the Region 1 release!

After watching the excellent USA Unrated release I was looking forward to buying the UK region 2 release. After looking into this Anchor bay title and checking this against the BBFC web site I discovered that while the film/theatre release says cut - the video version says uncut. If you look at the film version than this is what the BBFC web site states - The BBFC required 43 seconds of cuts to this film. The distributor made all the cuts, but in some instances substituted new material for the removed footage. This has resulted in a running time difference of 21 seconds between the original submission and the classified version. To cut a long story short - even though the video version is coming up NO CUTS MADE on the BBFC site the distributor ANCHOR BAY has made the cuts..The only way to see this in all it's glory is to purchase the USA UNRATED Version.8 out of 10 for the uncut version - can't say I would bother with the UK version as I would wonder what was cut and replaced with..

  5.  4 star for unrated USA version.

  6.  Far from Argento's best.......

I have just watched the Unrated region 1 of this. The dvd transfer on this USA widescreen release looks pretty muddy, especially the night scenes, hopefully the region 2 UK release will fair better. There are no extras on the region 1, not even a trailer.
Now to the film itself, I have always been a keen admirer of Argento's work since being mesmerised by Tenebrae.I would say that Argento's era was the 70's and 80's as most of his later works with the exception of the masters of horror episodes have been hit and miss.Chain smoking Adrian Brody plays a detective who has issues with his past, he seems very inept as a detective and just looks moody through-out.Emmanuelle Seigner gives her role her all as she heps Broody look for her abducted sister..The film drifts at a snails pace and even the gore was very subdued, i expected alot more for an unrated version but the camera pans away at any hint if real violence.Worth a watch but not one to go back to by any means.Just average im afraid.

  7.  Mockumentary or errrrmmm????

I was lucky enough to watch this film on a recent trip to the USA on a rare cinema showing. The film I watched I was told was fully uncut.I am in two minds as to know if this was all faked, some was faked, or if it was real or what?.This was Casey Affleck's first filmed venture and what a strange one in deed. The documentary/film shows Phoenix at a truly low point in his career. He says he is tired of acting and has nothing more to achieve on film and wants to be a rapper - no one is taking him serious though. It shows Phoenix taking drugs, being with a prostitute while on drugs and treating his hangers on like dirt. One of the most weirdest and most unpleasant scenes involved Phoenix being defecated on by a disgruntled so called friend. This scene is filmed in a very dark way and is difficult to see what is happening. The film left me feeling uneasy and cheated as I was unsure if I was watching the breakdown of an acting genius or I was just being taken for a ride. All in all not a film I would want to go back to but this did have some entertainment value.A bit of a guilty pleasure, at least while you are watching it.

  8.  Top film - well worth a watch...

Well Mel Gibson is back after an 8 year gap in movie acting, he does look more ragged and older but there is no mistaking his star power.I really enjoyed this movie, directed by the guy who gave us Casino Royale. This is a slow burner with a couple of truly jarring moments.Great story based on the BBC drama of the 80's which is also directed by the same guy. This is well made and has a great cast, long but never boring...9 out of 10..

  9.  EXCELLENT MOVIE THAT REALLY DOES KICK ASS!

After reading the great reviews in most cinema magazines I thought i would give this ago. This film grips you from it;s crazy opening to it's mad end.Alright this is off course predictable fun, but you want your predictions to be right while watching. The violence is in the Kill Bill school of fun and the language by such a small girl can be pretty excessive but this is all done tongue in cheek.Great fun - can't wait for the dvd release of this..HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.One of the top films of 2010......

  10.  A masterpiece..

Having watched this film many times over the years I truly now think of this as a masterpiece of film making. The acting by all concerned especially Burstyn and Connelly is top notch. The script and editing is very tight and you are never bored through-out, infact this gains by repeated viewings.Watch out for a cameo by the writer Selby. The picture quality here on the region 2 disc has stronger colours over the R1 ntsc disc even though the R1 disc is some what sharper.Having also the US Artisan release I can tell you that this is the full directors cut and includes all the hard images from the USA unrated version.Picture quality is superb and manages to keep up with the fast paced images with no motion blur.Sound quality through a 5.1 amp is amazing with good seperation on all speaker channels, the bass just roars and the centre speaker dialogue very clear.Excellent and informative extras makes this the two disc version a must have.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!......
