I knew I wanted this game the moment I heard about it's development, the 360 is seriously lacking in this genre of epic RPG games and when compared to the number of games released on the PS1/2 (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Grandia etc...) it really does suffer from massive scrutiny from gamers like me. So when I brought LO I had huge expectations and was not disappointed! The first opening scene shows off flowing and beautiful graphics, fluid choreography and atmospheric sounds and music. One of the most memorable moments for me was when the opening cut scene effortlessly becomes gameplay without any loading time at all, and sticks you right in the middle of the action.
There's no messing about in LO. Blue Dragon, LO's only 360 rival, was far too easy and was totally different in, well, pretty much everything. LO is very much for the more experienced RPGamers who like a challenge. The bosses look mean, sound mean, and are likely to wipe you out on your first attempt to teach you a lesson in modesty. The characters are a little mediocre unfortunately, with the exception of a few dynamic personalities. Janson for example, is rather a ladies man and pretty bad at it and acts as the game's comic relief whilst Seth is the badass pirate girl with a short fuse and a tendancy to enjoy danger. The main protagonist Kaim, sticking to tradition, is a troubled, moody and solitary character but as the game progresses, his personality develops. The characters however, though they form an integral part of the game, don't matter so much as the storyline ensures that you are hooked throughout.
I would say around 60 hours of gameplay, possibly a bit more or a bit less depending if you are a thorough secret finder or just want to get to the end credits as soon as you can. Needless to say opening the box and seeing 4 discs was a nice surprise as most games out at the moment cost more money then they do time.
All in all a fantastic edition to any gamers collection, just make sure you are aware of the foundations of the traditional RPG such as a strong storyline and the turn based battles.
