  1.  Cant Go Wrong

    Posted:

    Ill keep this short.

Although i do not have this exact box set, i do have all 3 of these anime seperatly.

I can tell you that any person who even half enjoys japanese animation should deffinantly get these 3.
Akira although the oldest of the 3 in this boxset was one of the highest production costing anime's ever made and it shows, it doesnt look old.

Ghost in the Shell has a very deep story and the quality cannot be faulted.

Ninja Scroll is an anime with arguably less quality than the other 2, but it is indeed a great anime non the less.

GitS and Ninja Scroll are both sold as a series and a movie(s), which are worth buying if you like whats in this box set. Akira however is a stand alone movie.

End verdict 5/5 deffiantly worth buying.

  2.  Out of date & way to easy.

Having played the game from what is known as 'vanilla', but also spending time to try out other mmo's as they came, i can say that i have an un-bias view of WoW. Also be advised that most original 'vanilla' players have already left WoW, most the player base is from the 'WoTLK' time, which was the easyiest expansion of the series, that is why many people find Cataclysm 'hard'.

Make no mistake,WoW 'was' a great game back in the day, but it has not aged well graphicaly, and nor has it aged well in terms of difficulty.
WoW is a victim of its own success, Blizzard's constant updates continualy make the game easyer so that it can attract a wider audiance. It also seems that Blizzard is ether running out of expansion idea's, or is loosing their imagination. As shown in their latest expansion "Mists of Pandaria".

Nowerdays it is much easyer to talk about the good points of WoW than the bad, since there are so many bad points. So...

The Community: The community is huge, you will always be able to find groups, chat, and generaly have fun.
The Compatability: The game is old and so it can easyily be played on old computers even with the latest "improvments", of which i use the term loosly.
The size: The game is big, very big. Plenty of exploring to do, tons of gear, and alot of lore.
End game access: its very easy to get into endgame content, no-one can really be left out.
Ease of use: The games controls are very simple, point, click, press.

Now for the bad points, as i said there are to many to list, but ill go over some atleast.
All the good points above are also partialy bad.
The community being huge will ofc mean u will innevitably bump into the "less civilized" types of people known to prowl the internet, unfortunatly for WoW, its large population of younger players also means simularly immature confruntations are frequent.
The compatibility is there becouse the game is outdated, and thus doesn't look anywhere near as good as pritty much any other mmo out there atm.
The size of the game when actualy playing seems small due to leveling speed, you will miss alot as you level, and the fact that less than half the content in terms of gear is actualy usable, old engame content is almost never used.
The ease of use also makes the game boring to play, the point click press style gameplay gets tiresome, there is no challenge.

PVP: Now this area is heavily argued with plenty of 'anti pvp' and 'pro pvp' communities out there, however in a non bias opinion, PVP in any game that uses 'Gear',Random Number Generation,'Specs',or anythign else that is not determind by a players PVP'ing skill, is not proper PVP. Therefor i will advise that if you want a game for PVP look for games that have set layouts for your character, ship, car, etc so that players are competing on a level playingfield. In WoW the winner of 'most' pvp battles is decided by gear and class/spec. very rarely is skill involved, which is why WoW and pritty much all other mmorpg's are not concidered eSports.

For me, the main issue is simply the difficulty of the game, not only in terms of content, but also in terms of how the game plays. Its far to easy now, unlike in its 'vanilla' days, this inclues 'Cataclysm', as although slightly harder than 'WotLK', it is still far easyer than 'vanilla' and 'TBC'.

It will ofcourse be around for a while longer due to its immense player base but if your looking for a mmorpg to play, do your best to look else where first, WoW is not a great example of a good MMO.(Its a great example of good buisness though).

Please note that i am nether 'pro' nor 'anti' WoW. This is simply a un-bias review :)

  3.  A Dark Twist To A Classic Story

    Posted:

This game is a re-telling of the original Alice in Wonderland. However its a dark re-telling.
The 1st Alice PC game was simular but Alice was younger, this follows on from that game and is set many years later when she is around the age of 16 to 18. The game itself is a 3D platformer with hack and slash fighting, puzzle solving, and some 2d side scrolling elements. It is most deffinatly not for young kids as it is 'dark, contains blood, bad language, and the unfolding plot reviels a cultural taboo which is the core of the story.

The choice between console version and PC version is really just down to whether you want more graphics, or ease of play.
The PC version is by fare better in terms of graphics as not only does it have a high resolution and AA + AF, it also has PhysX and has been designed to run in 3D. The PhysX is a big part of the PC versions graphical appeal, which unfortunatly for this game means you need a monster computer to run it high enough to see it in all its glory. A i7 CPU and atleast 2x GTX 560 Ti GPU's is required to play this game at max settings with physX on high, thats without 3D. For 3D you will need more GPU power. That said though, even the PC version suffers from some low quality textures in places. (the price you pay for a consol port)

Unfortunatly if you want a game you can pick up and play then the PC version is not for you, as it comes with game breaking bugs that will requir you to edit the games .ini files for it to work properly. No offical fix has been released or looks to be in the immediate future so google is your friend. Although due to the games .ini files being so easily edited, it does mean you can get the extra Dresses and Weapons unlocked by simply changing 1 word, which is alot better than having to pay and download these dresses and weapons on both console and pc versions, personaly i feal it only right that PC version users get these 'extras' free after having to fix the game themselves.
I would give this game 5 stars but due to the PC version being released and sold with game breaking bugs that have not been fixed officaly i have to mark it down. No gamer should have to do the job of a company's programer to play a game he/she has paid for.

  4.  Top Notch,Not for all westerners though

    Posted:

This is gaming how it should have stayed, back in the day games were a challenge, thats what made them fun, nowerdays most western games are 'EZ mode'. the entire Monster hunter series though, is most deffinatly NOT 'EZ mode'.
If you consider yourself a 'gamer' and have not played a game on par in difficulty to any of the monster hunter games, then you are not a 'gamer'.
The game itself is simple, you start of with a basic character with basic armor and weapons, you then go out and kill stuff to harvest materials to make better armor and weapons to then kill bigger and harder monsters.
However, although being a simple game, it is by no means simple to play.
    There is NO auto targeting,
    NO auto blocking,dodging, parrying etc.
    Everything is manual control.
Where and when u hit a monster effects ur performance. U hit them in the face, u do more dmg, but ur likely to get ur own head taken off.
You also do not know how much HP a monster has as there are no HP bars, nor are there any roling dmg text telling you how much dmg you done. You tell by looking at the monster to see how badley damaged it is, i.e broken horns, claws, teeth. Broken wings, chest plates etc. When it starts limping or breathing heavily tells u when it can be traped, and in some casses u just need to 'feel' it out through practice.

This game can be played by any compitent player and i highly sugest you try it out. The series is hugely successful in the east.

Visualy the graphics in terms of depth and scale is great, though due to the PSP's limitations it lacks any AA so it can seem very 'blocky' or 'low rez'. However you get used to it and eventualy u dont really notice it. The sound is also fine, no bones to pick there.
If you lucky enough to find someone else who plays the game, co-op gameplay is great aswell as you can go after much more powerfull monsters together.

All in all the only place i think it coulda done better is the Graphics, but for a handheld it cant really be marked down for not having AA.

  5.  Its a good 'Game'

Ok so i wont say im a die hard fan of Duke .But i did play Duke 3D all those years back along with its addon packs.

So, is Duke back ? ..well.. yes.

Its got everything and more form the old Duke 3D.
People moan about the graphics being X years old ..well ..it IS a old game, what the hell do you expect. A game that was in development for that long can NEVER be up to date otherwise it would NEVER get finished.
Duke 3D was not great becouse of its graphics, it was great becouse of what it was as a game. And DNF is no different, its just a laugh.
If you play the game on its absolute maximum settings you cant really complain about the way it looks or plays.
The storyline carries on from the last game and ends ready for an expansion. And on its hardest settings it 'can' be difficult.

Buy the game, try it, its good, but DONT expect it to be another Crysis, or COD, or what not. Its a game designed to be A GAME.

  6. Rift

    Rift

    PC Games

Good. But nothing to new and it has perfomance issues

    Posted:

First of i will NOT compare this to WoW as that game is by no means the best MMO out, it just the most successfull from a buisness standpoint.
Rift is a good game, from the start your thrown into the story and shown how the soul system works to create your 'spec'.The gameplay itself is just a select target and hit your skills type game so dont expect any 'action' elements, its all automatic and most battles both pve and pvp will be determind by gear, spec, and RNG, very little gaming skill is required, tho tactics for bosses are obviosly required like most mmorpg's. So depending the person that can be taken as a good or bad thing.
The graphics can be very nice and realistic when on high and better on max. However. The game is fundimentaly flawed when it comes to performance. It is not optimized for modern or even computers a couple years old. Do not expect FPS over 30 unless ur alone in a bland area of the world, or have the most up to date CPU with a good GPU (even then you will notice Rift as having the lowest FPS out of all your games).
So overall 3 stars due to the lack of new ideas and performance issues that have been present since beta.

  7.  Good but to short & easy

    Posted:

All in all a good game:

Graphics: Good, smooth, and runs well at 1920x1080 with max settings even on a dated gaming computer. Although... The textures could do with being more complex, most seem very simple, specialy the liquids. However these issues are probably one of the reasons the game runs so smooth.

    The game itself:
Like the 1st game the idea is great, however even the 1st portal was to short and easy. This is even shorter and even easyer. granted the end puzzles get more complex towards the end, but they dont take long to figure out and complete.
I found myself just getting to the point where i thought the difficulty should have been at 20% through the game , however it was infact at 90% through the game, a few levels later and the game was over...underwhelming. (completed the game the same day i got it)

However in all honesty i cant mark the game down to harshly becouse of this, as most modern day western games are to easy, so in retrospect Portal 2 holds up rather well.

It makes you laugh and the story gets finished of rather well with a possiblility that another Portal game could be made to continue on.

So yea its a good buy although i wouldn't buy it for its rrp considering how short the game is. So the PC version price currently on Play.com is reasonable.
