Wow! Excellent book.
How exciting to find a such a compelling book written by an author I, hitherto, have not been aware of.
This story centres around a child called Ruth which sets the scene, briefly, of her traumatic and neglected childhood. Her susequent desire to achieve an 'attachment' to someone in adulthood, regardless of the cost to her emotional wellbeing is played out well after she meets and tries 'to keep hold of' a man called Jason. A tangled web of relationships ensues, which sees Ruth 'doing time' for the manslaughter of another couples child. The unravelling of Ruth's life account is played out by her writing 'all' in her 'black book'. To ensure nothing is 'given away' I shall no more. Suffice to say I could not put the book down. The twists at the end of the book are excellent. Can't wait to read another of Ruth Dugdall's books.
