The first Die Hard (20 years ago!!) revolutionised the action genre and was a great vehicle for Bruce Willis' talents, putting his charm, screen persona and action credentials on show for all to see. The sequel was a poor cash in, the third even worse and now the fourth film continues this trend.
The plot is actually very interesting, concerning cyber terrorists attempting to shut down the USA's technological infrastructure, but I can't help feeling this plot would better suit someone like Jack Bauer.
Willis' likeable charm is still prsent and there is some good banter between Bruce Willis and Justin Long. But the action is poor, the CGI also poor, the film is far too long (or maybe it just seemed too long) and Timothy Olyphant's bad guy is laughably one dimensional.
There seems to be a disticnt lack of creativity in Hollywood and this is another desperate attempt to regenerate an 80's franchise, albiet one that has toned the action and language down to guarantee a 15 certificate in order to appeal to as large and undemanding an audience as possible.
I pray they won't make number 5.
