After reading this authors first book, Paying For It, I didnt think his follow up would be as good. Luckily for me it was even better. Another gritty Scottish tale, a fantastic sequel ,and early next year his third novel, Loss will make a great read Im sure. My favourite new find of the year is Tony Black.
Paying for it
6 New from
The best book I've read this year. Unlike your usual fodder of American Crime, this novel is set in Scotland, the gritty underworld side of it, with your usual drunks, and hardmen. Fantastic, seedy book that keeps you turning the pages until the very end. Also out now, can't wait to read Gutted, and early next year look out for Loss.
The Graveyard Book
This book is a great childrens novel set in a graveyard, and would make an ace film. Probably better for kids aged 11 upwards, it grabs the imagination and doesnt let you go until the end.
Stephen Fry in America
This is the best book i've read this year. A fascinating look at life in America, which is not as glamorous as its made out to be on tv. Stephen Fry is at his usual comical best, giving his opinion on all the states as he visits them in his black cab. With lovely colour pictures, and facts on all the states, this is a great gift for anyone who likes a good non-fiction read.
