  1.  Anna Karenina

An incredible portrait of family life and all the joys and heartache relationships entail. From lovers to friends, parents to children - each relationship is wonderfully captured. Places are described so well you can imagine you are there.

The only downside to this translation is that it contains an introduction that, while well written, will completely spoil the book if you don't know what happens in the story! Read the introductions AFTER you've read the book. Obviously the preface writer assumes that one must be a bit of a pleb not to know what happens (as it is such a famous novel).

  2.  becky is horrible!

i was really looking forward to starting the 'shopaholic' books. the story and writing are very good and the other characters are engaging - it's becky that ruins it for me! what an awful character to base a lot of books around!

  3.  avoid!

i usually like a bit of chick-lit but this is the most predictable bit of throwaway fluff i have ever read. the storyline has potential but the immature style of writing and the awful characters in the story ruin it. terrible. can't imagine how bad the film must be!

  4.  my favourite book

the story will stay with you long after the last page has been read. original and beautifully written. a modern masterpiece.
