  1.  Just as good as COD4

    Posted:

With COD4 being such an amazing game, packed full of some of the best gameplay ever seen in a game, the question was how the hell are Treyarch going to follow up to a game like that. when the news broke that COD 5 was returning to its original world war 2 setting, many people including myself thought that it was the worst thing possible. everyone (well a lot of people) are fed up with WWII games. modern warfare changed the FPS genre and everyone wanted more of that, there was no way COD 5 could live up to the call of duty name. but man were we wrong! the game brings WWII to life. it shows the horrors of war so well that i now see war differently. one shot with a shotgun or a blast from a grenade will see the poor old target limbless. all the set pieces are brilliant. the graphics have improved but are still no killzone 2. the game now has up to four player co-op. you play as the Americans fightting the Japanese in the pacific and the Russians fighting the Germans in europe. there are severall new weapons including a call of duty first, the flame thrower. the story however is not any longer (its about the same length of COD4) which is a shame. online is basicaly the same as COD4 you start off with a small range of weapons and as you level up you unlock new weapons and upgrades. the online is so addictive that i havn't finished the story (i've had the game since its release) because i have been online most of the time. the online mode does take some getting used to though and at first (if you havn't played COD4 online) it can be off putting. overall call of duty world at war has kept up with COD4 and is worthy of the call of duty name it plays just like COD4 with better looks and is the most realistic WWII game around. if you liked COD4 or just war games in general this is a must buy!

  2.  same old stuff

well, the original skate ruled. it was a real change from the normal button bashing tony hawks, but was let down by the fact you couldn't get off your board. skate 2 answers by allowing you to get off you board. but skate 2 messes up big time with the controls when the person is off the board. they are very unresponsive, so when you press square to jump it takes about a two seconds before the character actually does the action. it is hard to move the character in the right direction as when you push the anolog stick he moves to much to one side. it took me a couple of minutes to move my bloke up a set of stairs. although the controls suck when you character is off the board they are unique when on the board. the flick it controls are a brilliant idea which made the first rule over tony hawks. the way you move the stick feels just like doing the real thing. however they do also have a down side. it's not much off a problem but say then you want to just do an ollie, half the time you end up doing a kickflip/heelflip which gets anoying. the graphics are awsome but not the best. the story starts with you being released for jail into a new san vanelona (the original was destroyed in a freak weather storm) which is great, it has some sick spots. however the people of the city hate skateboarding and have capped most of the best rails which is so anoying (you have to spend money to uncap them). anyway you have to complete challenges to get into magazines and to get sponsered (the same old thing as before). the challenges get very repetitive (kickflip over this, grab over that). the tricks are the same except for new ones like hippy jumps, one foots and handplants, but are not enough to keep me amused. moving in world items is fun but gets boring after a while. with me being a skater myself in my oppinion this is the closest you are going to get to the real thing. so overall with a few exceptions skate is the same old thing (repetitive)

  3.  very dissapointing

ok. well this game is a strange one. it has good points but yet it is so bad. tna does what it says (total non-stop action) and that is carried into the game with the controls being more reactive than say svr2008 (i havn't got 09 so maybe this review is a little unfair) the wrestler reacts instantly with out the second or so wait that svr has. the graphics are not any better than svr but they are more realistic. tna gets the scale of muscle just right on the men unlike svr, which is well over exagerated. its a nice take on the story mode; it very original. for those who want to know what the story is this is a brief overveiw: you are the wrestler suicide, you get the beating of your life and forget who you are. you go back to tna under a new name (your desision) and looks (you get given plastic surgery by two doctors). those are the good parts about the game and i think they are things midway should be proud of. now for the bad parts: the main problem is the quantity of things. the roster is small, there is only about 25 westlers (all men) maybe more but not by much and the amount of match choices is pathetic, theres about 10 if not that. there's single, tag, falls count anywhere, submission, ultimate x and few others (i cant remember sorry). All the characters are the same size, so shark boy is the same size as abyss (i think thats how you spell it) lol. there is no blood and you cant leave the arena, not even up the ramp. although its original the story is very shallow, win match after match until you can face the champion. the entrances are short about 5 seconds which is disapointing. so overal tna sucks but it has a few points to be liked about. VERY DISAPPOINTING

  4.  one of the best racing games around

    Posted:

It may not have the appeal that midnight club or nfs has, as it is legal circuit racing. But if your wondering whether to buy this, buy it!
This game is just as fun as any street racing game. The handling is not perfect as it took a very long time for me to get to grips with it. Which when i first got it i wanted to take it back because i thought it was stupid. But once you get the hang of it it is very easy. There are a lot of glitches where parts of your car that have fallen off (say in a crash) will pass right through another car. So say you hit a car in the side and your wheel comes off, in stead of it bouncing off the other car, it will pass right through it. It's not a major problem but it happens a lot and i like to see things like that polished off but thats just me and i expect it wont bother others. Anyway those are the only problems (and there aren't many) i have with the game.
The game is simple, you start as a driver that drives for other teams to earn mony to start you own team. Once you do that (and it is only a few races before you earn enough) you have to make your team the best around. There is a table for you as a driver, out of about 400 drivers where you can try to become the best driver which adds extra hours to the already large game. There aren't that many cars. Each one is packed with detail. I would of liked to have seen more but what they've got is enough. There are plenty of real circuits to keep you entertained which are also done in reverse. There are plenty of different race types:
Grip, drift gp, drift battle, freestyle drift, downhill drift, pro touge (head to head on japanese roads), endurance and demolition derby. The flash back mode is great and very handy. The graphics are amazing better than any racing game so far. The damage is so realistic, i love it!!!
This is a great fast paced game. One of the best around.

  5.  super

this game is almost perfect. . well to some it already is. before i continue i have to state that this is a platformer! one of the best platformers around the only problem with this is the create a level mode. now this is one of the best parts in a game. not many games offer a create a level mode but when they do it tends to be good. this one gets it perfect. you can create basically anything. how ever it is very complex. some people may think that what i'm saying is bull, but in my opinion it is very complex. it is very physics based. say you want an object to move up and down you have to fit it with a piston. but thats not it, you then have to adjust the strength, the speed, the distance, if you want it to go back and forth and there is more. trust me it isn't as simple as it sounds. and its not just pistons, there's string, rods, springs, elastic, winch, emitters, bolts and buttons and switches. yeah that is a good range of tools but they all have these complex adjust menu's. like i said you can make anything if you have got the time and patience and it will take time. there is:
sponge, cardboard, rubber polystyrene, glass and metal to work with leaving endless possibilities. anyway the only problem with it is that it is to complex to pick up and go. i went through endless tutorials only to find it is so compex and hard that i can't even make a simple level!
the story is good there is many chapters, each with there own little big stories. there is also hundreds of prize bubbles to collect, which unlocks new stickers to place every where (a bit pointless) new items to customise your character( there is loads to customise your character with. its GREAT) and objects to put in your created levels. it is so much harder to complete 100% than you might first think as many bubbles are hidden or in hard to reach places. overall this is a great game the graphics are good not the best but good, the story is fun and hard to master, sharing levels online is great fun, and creating your own levels can be rewarding, once you get your head around it!

    single player reveiw only.
this is the street racing game i've been wating for, ever since i finished nfs underground on ps2. i thought that it was so good every racing game i tried was not up to the standards of this and underground. when i first played this game i didn't think it was that good, but after a few hours i was loving it!
there are many positive features in the game: the handling is perfect; more on the arcade side than realistic, but what it does it really does well. the customisation is very dense, ranging from body kits to the colour of your cars interior. there are hundreds of decals which you can use in many layers to create some awsome designs. the performance upgrading is simple, you unlock each performance upgrade as you go along and then by it to level up in handling for example.
the map is very big, filled with the usual motorways, main roads and short cuts, there is also a long beach which is good for testing the speed of your car. there are many petrol stations scattered all over the map in which you can use to fix your car or fill up your nitro. there are two main gararges where you can upgrade you car or by a new one. the game is very difficult as one crash will cost you the race basically but then again it is good because it makes the game longer. the game is built around your reputation. every race you finish you will earn rep, the better you finish the more rep you get to unlock things with. so even if you lose every race you will still make progress but at a slower pace. the amount of cops in the game is just right there not to less or to many leaving it well balanced. you race in groups from 1-5 depending on what race type you choose (time trial, circuit, red light (from a red light to a certain location and there are no checkpoint in this race type) point to point, motoway races or tournament) the race is filled with check point that shine yellow to prevent you from getting lost.
now for the bad bits. there aren't enough cars yeah theres a big bunch but i would have liked to of seen more. the game has many glitches and some checkpoints are put in the wrong place. now i am a damage freak. i love to see great damage physics, like race driver grid's. this has damage but for me not enough so for me it's a big let down. all the other bad points i've said can be ignored but in my opinion the damage draws the line between 5 and 4 stars. if you liked nfs underground then you'll love this

  7.  not too bad

the game is good in many ways the graphics are amazing and are very realistic although i personally think that the people could maybe do with improvement but that is just me.
the size of the game is huge! and is split into 2 sections leboa-sako(north district) and bowa seko (southern district) each with their own main features like pala (a town) in the north district and mosate selao (another town) in the southern district. one of the main problems is traveling. i'm sure many people will agree with me, that at first its fun driving to each location but very soon it will begin to become a boring task which for me puts me right off playing it especially as the distance grows as the game goes on. there is an option of fast traveling but you have to go to a bus station to do that, and even then bus stations are rare. there also isn't a big variety of transport; theres one type of car, a few types of jeeps, a type of buggy and in the flying option there is only a paraglider which yeah its good but i'd loved to have seen a plane or 2.
the gameplay is good but very repetitive. go there kill some one, go there destroy this and thats all the missions are basically. the men can take a lot of damage which makes that very unrealistic. the fire is gr8 but that doesn't make a game. i like the way every 1 minute real time is 5 minutes in game time and not 1 hour as the game doesn't move to quickly. oh and finally there are too many enemies around (drive down 1 road shoot some people, turn left etc drive a little way down that road shoot some more enemies.) it gets very boring. this is only the single player reveiw as i havn't got an online acount yet so i am unable to reveiw the online mode. sorry. :(
    graphics-9/10
    gameplay-7/10
