I didn't know what to think when I heard that Charlie Brooker was doing a Big Brother thing for E4.Anyone who knew him from Screenwipe or his column in The Guardian would think 'he's sold us out' but,not only was Dead Set everything we have come to expect from the most ascerbic wit in TV,it was more than I ever would have expected from a tv drama/comedy. This has a visceral punch that would surprise you.A low budget show that gets across the sense that 'this is the end!'better than Hollywood fare with 100 times the budget. Brooker's miserabilist cynicism often seems at odds with the,at times, very real sense of peril that this show has in spades but most of it comes from the odious producer Patrick so you can forgive the odd dramatic jolt,as he gets the most laughs. This was a lot darker than I was expecting but, having watched it all in one go,it has atmosphere to spare. If zombies is your thing,I heartily(and lungily and intestinily)reccomend it.Be warned Romero fans, these zees run like Raptors.....
