  1.  Superb all round!

Michael Powell's first film is significant in that he was one of the best film directors ever. This classic set on a Scottish island is fascinating too. The blu-ray transfer is true HD quality for a 30's film. It couldn't look better.

  2.  Classic 70's action and mystery

This is one of those films that was on UK tv but never available on video in the UK. Burt Lancaster heads a starry cast as an ex-cop on parole, working as a night watchman caught up in a murder mystery. As ever, he gives a top performance and deals with the bad guys like a true hero. A must!

  4.  Good collection of cartoons but some content has been cut!

As many reviews on amazon.com show, Disney in the U.S cut some of these rare cartoons for the Region 1 DVD as they felt that some material was politically incorrect for this day and age! However the DVD is available uncut from Disney in Sweden!

  5.  Excellent value!

Years ago the BFI released the original 1968 version and just that on DVD and was considerably expensive then. Deleted after a short while it could cost a lot of money online when it became a rarity. Now BFI have finally released this classic ghost story with Michael Hordern again along with the 2010 remake with John Hurt on one disc. The remake isn't as good ( as remakes seldom are) but nevertheless great value for money.

  6.  Dreadful DVD from a third rate label in Spain!

A few years back when this DVD was released I bought a copy directly from Spain. When it began playing I was horrified to find that not only is it in FULL SCREEN 4:3, but the picture had been stretched from 2.35:1 into 4:3 very badly! I played the disc and within 20 minutes it packed up- it wouldn't play further! This DVD is worthless. There are lovely, correct 2.35:1 transfers available in both Germany (region 2) and the U.S (region free) so buy either. Avoid this atrocious Spain DVD like the plague!

  7.  Finally an excellent DVD, superior to their previous edition

The picture quality has been improved and also the extras are great- "We are The Lambeth Boys" is fascinating particularly to those of you who are from London. A must have!

  8.  Very disappointing Blu-ray!

    Posted:

There is no difference in picture quality between this Blu-ray and the DVD which has been on the market a decade now. Fox have released the DVD again but in Blu-ray packaging so if you already have the DVD, keep it as this is just the same.

  9.  Contoversial and dramatic 70's tv drama!

    Posted:

For those who saw it in the mid 70's on tv, a truly memorable, controversial and thought provoking drama with Frank Finlay on top form in the lead. Totally engrossing entertainment keeping us glued to the characters and often alarming events in their lives. A classic!

  10.  Excellent boxed set- the Ultimate DVD!

With the superb screenplay book & film still enclosed and the great range of extras, this DVD is the only one to have of this comedy classic! It's a shame Sony only released it for a limited time.
