  1.  Great film

    Posted:

First off I will say I've not watched it all the way through in 3D I've just looked at certain scenes and the ones I did was good, it's a native shot 3D film so it's all real and not converted which is good. The 3D employed here is the walk into the world style ie it opens the world up beyond and into the screen rather then out and the in your face style. In the bits I watched it worked a treat, bilbo's house felt like I could walk into it, forests felt dense and thick, cities and castles felt vast in size and scale. In both 3D and 2D the image is incredibly natural looking from start to finish not once does it fall short. The DTS:MA is also a treat not as booming or big as LOTR's but still it's very good. I highly recommend this film to anyone whether your a LOTR'S fan, a movie fan or a 3D fan cos it ticks the boxes in all those areas

  2.  a great no brainer film

Again another great leave your brain at the door and enjoy yourself in the gorgeous, loud and silliness of the resident evil series. Yeah the story aint to clever and its all alittle cheesy but who really cares when the games its based on are just the same these days, its good seeing many different elements from the games in here. I loved the whole massive testing ground idea with the different city sections but the ending i thought was alittle too OTT if im honest (i wont spoil it). As for the picture, 3D and sound its all top notch and improves on afterlife which was outstanding, in 2D the film is razor sharp due to the RED camera's used. In 3D its even better which i'll say again afterlife was amazing in even if it did use alot of cheesy shots, in this one it takes on a more natural form using depth and laying instead of gimmicks. The backward opening in slow-mo and 3D is just beautiful and another fav scene of mine was the 2 axemen along with the white corridor mass zombie fight in tokyo. If your a fan of the series and got a 3Dtv BUY this film its a great showcase

  3.  a proper little gem of a film

I had heard good things about this film when it was released in the cinema and was looking forward to seeing it when it came out for home release. I rented and it and what i heard was right, its a great little gem of a film that from what i heard never really done anything at the cinema but the people who did see loved it. I totally agree yeah its not really a big budget film but that dont matter cos what it has is bags of style and class that all other superhero films last year lacked (im looking at you Avengers). Action was great, characters was great and the 3D was great too it had the odd cheesy poke out moment but it mostly added depth which i prefer. So overall a great film not one i'd buy at full price but if it falls to piranha levels of 10 pound or under id pick it up for sure

  4.  amazing film

Ok first off im just gonna say that alot of people seem to be totally missing the point of this film and instead expecting a bog standard alien slasher film...WRONG. The original wasnt that and neither is this, they both share that minimal action but huge on suspense feel. What most people are failing to take in is that this film is all about evolution and questioning the origin of mankind and how that evolved. People who expecting the alien they know and love will be disapointed due to ignoring the previous statement, this film is set many moons before the original and before LV-426. This introduces us to the first of its kind facehugger before evolving over the years to how we know it and the same with the alien at the end, just the same as we did from monkeys. As for the film quality itself its a beautiful picture thats stark and mute in colour but the cinematography and art style is beautiful. The 3D is a natural style with no gimmick in your face moments so the long dark tunnels of the engineers base feel huge and stretch out deep into the background, landscapes feel massive and deep. One particular great bit is the scan of the pyramid on the table which is just amazing in 3D. The DTS:MA 7.1 is a wonderious thing that just surrounds you with atmosphere and is spot on. Acting it great too from everyone you got a few stereotypical characters in there which is fine. Overall a brilliant thought provoking film that questions our origins and what we done wrong and if part 2 goes ahead then i cant wait

  5.  a good start to a potentially good series

I have to say i really liked this spiderman for many reasons, yeah its covering old ground thats only just over 10yrs old but thats fine cos this fleshes it out so much more then the old ones did. This film takes a more serious real approch to the series unlike the raimi ones did, here there's no waking up super buffed up and mastering swinging in a instance. Here everything is gradual and we see peter learning and training and making cockups plus there's no stupid natural web producing from the wrists this is proper spidey where he makes the the web shooters. Andrew garfield is also a way better peter parker he brings alot more emotion and character to it and when he's spiderman he's throwing out some classic one liners and having fun. It was great to finally see conners/lizardman finally used after teasing for 3 films, i really liked his look and it was done very well and also looked great and never bad CGI and the plus being he doesnt get killed. I think this is a great start to what can become a great series of films yeah it takes half the film to tell the story of what we already know but its done brilliantly and clearly done that way for future films.

more launch title then end of gen title

Ok i will admit im not a halo fan i find the chief to be a very dull, boring and uninteresting character and this extends to the universe too. Being a arty person and a massive film and game buff the design of it all just lacks any punch or style at all when you sit it next to greats like gears of war or killzone. I had no idea what the story was on about cos i had lost interest within half hour it was that dull to be honest and using CGI in some cut scenes was terrible cos no one really does that now, its usually a case of ingame engine on a workstation then compressed into video so it almost blends with realtime. The single player is basically metal corridor after metal corridor then some jungle and rocks then back to metal corridors, no variation at all. Same goes for the weapons too the alien ones are exactly the same as the chiefs ones with the same functions, there is no effort made to make them fire different or do anthing different which is very poor. The small good thing about the game is that its finally entered the HD generation after 6yrs the bad part is it looks like a launch window title with no lighting from weapons, grass and bushes dont move a inch in the wind again very poor. This is not what a MAJOR title should look like at the end of a machines cycle!!! Multiplayer is good fun but you can still get away with just using the main rifle every single time lol. Overall a very VERY poor showing for a end of gen game which looking at it shouldnt of been given to a new team to make and bungie should of stayed with it

  7.  more old classics beautifullly redone

I'll keep this one short. There's no denying the indy films are alltime action classics that will never be beaten, they have the perfect mix of action, comedy, story and characters that cant go wrong. Right down to the remasters... again like jaws and star wars these old films have been given a brilliant new transfer which puts most modern films to shame. Now obviously the 1st film is gonna be the worse and even at its worse its amazing, its just odd bits like some soft focusing at the edges and added in effects but thats it, as the films go on the quality gets better and these little faults disappear. Again like JAWS the DTS:MA does a amazing job for old films like these that were only stereo of dolby surround in the day. The collections edition is top notch too, i love all the little bits from the various films thats included like the grail tablet rubbing, club obi wan matches, various tickets and photos and my fav the field notebook from the last crusade. If your fan and grew up on these films like i did then buy them cos they have never looked and sounded so good

  9.  can i have those 2 hours back please

    Posted:

Firstly i will say i had no interest in seeing this film at the cinema but i eventually did just out of wonder, i could of walked out after the first half hour it bored me that much! For the home release i thought id give it another go and rent it being all in HD and that, again it bored me! The film its self isnt the avengers its ironman 2.5 lol. The story was so so until the whole fate of the world vibe is totally broken by a very silly gag here and there (great way to destroy the fear Joss). As for the bad guys who was they? no explaination was given and as for loki he went from quite a menacing character in Thor to a comedy character with no real point in this, very poor story arc that. Action-wise again that was ok but hardly thrilling in the slightest, it was like a very dull rollercoaster ride. There was no suspense, worry or fear in what was happening, it should of been cut and edited in a more quicker, faster, snappier pace to make it more thrilling instead of just sailing along. As for the blu-ray its self i found it a very mixed bag, picture wise daytime scenes was flawless as you expect from a actual HD shot film but night and dark bits it lost it. To me it also felt like it was shot in a TV style rather then a big screen cinimatic style which goes back to my problem of the bad action pacing. The DTS:MA 7.1 i found a mess, speech was seriously weak in places, base just didnt come from where you thought it would like the hulk and huge ships crashing through buildings. Its very poor when you compare it to other big films like transformers:DOTM or Tron: legacy who's dolby truHD and DTS:MA truly rock!

Equipment this was watched on was:
    panasonic GT30
    panasonic BDT500 blu ray player
    onkyo 609 A/V amp

But on the plus side the item 47 extra was rather amusing

  10.  a real fans game!!!

Ok i absolutely loved the 1st game i thought it was brialliant, loved the 2 sided single player and the multiplayer. I knew this one was gonna be there was no doubt of that but now ive finished it i can truly say its AMAZING!!! First of all they have up'd the graphics 10 fold and really pumping out the unreal engine brilliantly, this is what it was made for big hulking robots and mechanical cities. Story is great yeah its not 2 sided like the 1st game but thats ok cos it has a nice flow to it and the last level has a great twist on the side swapping that i loved! All in all this is a EPIC game that actually feels it from start to finish oh and if you a fan of the 80's cartoon movie then listen out for several lines and quotes from it. There are alot and everytime i heard one i had a huge smile on my face
