I rarely write reviews about movies, but felt compelled to do so having watched The Fighter.
Firstly, Christian Bale hasn't dazzled me since The Machinist, in which, in my opinion, he delivered a stellar performance. However, his portrayal of Batman and John Conner left me with an underwhelming view of Bale's acting prowess, and I felt his script selection erred toward the selection of cardboard-acting portrayals.
I take it all back. Bale's performance in The Fighter was extraordinary. He had me captivated from the outset, and the deliverance of his mannerisms and accent really blurred the distinction between him and the real Dicky Eklund (just watch the end credits for a peek of his character's namesake and you'll see what I mean).
If you want to watch a film that is thought provoking, emotion invoking, and offers that feel good factor, The Fighter is for you. It's inspirational and leaves you feeling that life can offer you more only if you do not hinder its progression.
