Captain Corelli's Mandolin

May have a slowish start but I couldn't wait to start it again once I got to the end as then it all became very meaningful. Not that I wanted to get to the end as it was so totally gripping it fast became part of my life and I felt I knew the characters.(Helped that I read it in beautiful Kefalonia though it wasn't a good look sat sobbing by the pool). One of the best books I've ever read and also really enlightening about how other European countires played their parts in WW2 which I haven't often come across before. Having said that I was so stunned at one of the story outcomes I was beside myself - this is how real it all became to me - call me sad but just read it ....it is wonderful!

voice, melody, lyrics - fab. Love the whole thing.
Picked at random for holiday reading from airport and couldn't read it fast enough. Short snappy ever changing chapters and never knew what to expect next. Also refreshing to read a thriller set in my part of the world (north west UK) which made it even better to relate to. Can't wait to read another one - thanks Neil White !

Surely the author must be on the payroll of the endless 'designer name' product companies named in this shallow, predictable and boring book - possibly hence the rave reviews by glamour magazines? The characters & plot are shallow and uninteresting. Don't bother!!
