Gears Of War 2 (Classics)

I just want to start with the fact that I am not a fanboy. I have only had my Xbox a few months and have been playing the first gears of war for an even shorter amount of time. So I am not rating this game high just because I am a fan of the franchise but I am rating it high because of the excellent content
I got the game a day early and I played it until 2 in the morning today so I have had a fair amount of experience. Previous gears players will feel at home with the cover system and the active reloads. The weapons have remained virtually the same but with some more additions. The mortar is a weapon you pump up and release to shower bombs on you enemies. The flamer thrower (scorcher) is brilliant and kills as quickly as the shotgun does at close range. However at a distance you get to see your enemies' burn and run around screaming. There is also a new pistol that fires short bursts. I may have missed out some weapons I haven't come across yet so please forgive me.
Now for some of the new defining features that make this game so much better. The new beat downs add to the gore. You can perform a weapon specific beat down with Y or the good old faithful curb stomp with X. The meat shield involves picking up a downed enemy and taking him hostage. You use him as a human shield while you pick of enemies with your pistol. Or you can have the same shield affect by picking up a metal shield called the boom shield.
The matchmaking system has been improved greatly. You now look for team members and then look for an apposing team of the same skill all at the push of a button. You then vote for the game type and map before starting. Then you choose your character and the weapon you start with.
Anyways enough reviewing I want to get back to playing.

The exclusive item (AdventurersHandbook) will not work. The format for the redemption code is the US format. This means that it can't be used in the UK. This was a big disappointment as this exclusive item gives you a 10% xp bonus for 2 hours.
The tier graphs are very useful and the key locations shown on the maps along with senario maps make this guide worthwhile. Though the maps do not look very detialed and are much more basic compared to those used in game. Also it does not show the rank of mobs in the different areas.

However the content of the guide is fairly useful. Though detailed crafting skill information is missing.

A lot of people compare this game to wow. I played wow since it's launch but eventually quit the game because of the grind. Die hard wow fans may not like the game as it is more about pvp and less about end game dungeons. Which personally i prefer as i never had the patience for end game grinding. Enough about the wow comparisons i'm sure you're all sick fo hearing lets get reviewing.
Gameplay feels very smooth and the visual effects for spells are great. The classes are fun to play; for once a game has made several unique warrior type clases that have specific qualities and are as fun to play with as the spell casters.
Personally i dont feel the grind as i party up and quest while waiting to join a rvr senario. Once the senario is over i appear exactly where i was when i joined the battlegrounds. I can then re-join the que. I can also take part in some public quests. These are the three ways to level your character. It is so easy to switch between pve, public quest and pvp. This makes the game so enjoyable with no feeling of a grind. This game is great!!
Play Value Geforce 8600GT / 1GB / PCI Express X16 / Graphics Card
First of all the manufacturer that your card is made by will vary. Although the specification states you get two DVI ports you may get one DVI and a VGA port. DVI ports are the new monitor ports which have a white connector and VGA have a blue connector. Don't panic if you have a VGA monitor and you get a graphics card with 2 DVI slots it WILL have an adaptor guaranteed.
I have seen some questions people have asked that are answered in the specification of this product (provided you understand the spec). Some people have asked if they can use a PCI 1 port or any other variation of this. The answer is NO this bus type is PCI Express x16 and will only work in a port of this bus type. Secondly people have asked if they can run two of these cards together. Of course you can for a start it clearly states its SLI ready which means you can run dual graphics cards providing you have two PCIE x 16 ports and a bridge to join the two graphics cards.
Now for my experience with this card and others. I bought an 8800 GT which is PCIE 2.0 which are supposed to be backwards compatible with PCIE x16 the above graphics card is PCIE x 16 so don't worry!! You have a 95% chance your PCIE 2.0 card will work on your older PCIE x 16 motherboard (I was just unlucky with my Asus P5VD2-VM motherboard.). I was so gutted that my £130 8800GT didn't work on my pc and I had to get a refund. If you are thinking of buying an 8800GT it pays to google your motherboard and check for incompatibility issues (remember the chances it wont work are slim but it's better to be safe than sorry). So instead I went for this card and I do not regret it. As mentioned before be prepared to put your graphics on high on games such as Call of Duty 4 with an FPS of about 35 which in my opinion is excellent.
So all you need is a PCIE x 16 port on your motherboard which you can check by going into the NVIDIA control panel on your computer by right clicking your desktop, once there click help and it should say PCI Express x16 somewhere on the page.. A power supply upgrade is recommended for those of you with a PSU below 350W. If not don't bother you will be fine I promise. The size of this card is very small compared to the other 8 series cards (well mine was small anyway).
I hope this helps!!
