  1.  The information is there, but not always noticeable...

Okay, so the title of my review is a little wierd, but hopefully you'll realise what I'm on about sooner or later.

On my first playthrough, I played on amateur mode. I did this because I know this is how Resi games are meant to be played now (since 4). You build up your weapons, collect ammo and then start on the next difficulty. Anyway, as I was playing through amateur mode, I had a horrible feeling everytime I finished a chapter... that I wasn't collecting all the hidden treasures!!! This is the reason I bought the guide... So that I'd be able to make as much money as possible in order to upgrade weapons.

The guide itself if very informative and tells you where everything in the game is. Every collectable item imaginable is present in the guide, down to the last handgun bullet. However, the way the guide delivers the information is not quite good enough.

The guide is set out in a double-page format.....The "step-by-step" of completing a chapter is on the left-hand page, and the collectables and other information is on the right-hand page. Because you're always looking at the left page for the step by step as you play a level, you find yourself idly running past hidden treasures because the weren't mentioned in the step by step, but were in a little table on the right page. This means you get to the end of a chapter because you've been trying to run away from infected majini, but then see the table on the right-page and have to go back to collect treasures/emblems.

When Resi 4 came out, the official guide was written by Brady Games (well I had the U.S. version of the guide, so it may have been different in the U.K.) and it was amazing. The whole thing was a step by step guide, tellin you where treasures were as well as what to do in the game in a very good, flowing manner.

Overall this is a good guide, but the double-page format is a bit dodgy. The sections after the walkthrough are amazing though. There's an interview section, bonus features and even conceptual artwork.

I can't believe I wrote a review this long about a guide book.

  2.  Why the hell did I wait so long to buy this TV?

I was contemplating for over 3 weeks whether to buy this tv or not. I'm a student, so cash is always tight, but I needed a good HD tv for my PS3. Well I really wish now that I had bought this straight away!

Because I waited so long, Play seemed to run out of stock, saying that it would take 4-5 days to be dispatched. I decided to buy it from another site, and obviously lost out on the fantastic warranty deal, but still got it cheap. Anyway, as soon as it arrived, I saw that it was packaged very well, like all Sony products are. Out of the box, you get the usual stand, remote, batteries and booklets etc. Attaching the stand to the tv is a piece of cake using the 3 screws provided. By the way, the stand is excellent, allowing the screen to be swivelled and providing excellent viewing angles (invaluable when space is limited).

The picture on this tv is incredible. I had a 36" sony crt tv, which i feverently defended, always saying that even HD couldn't beat its crispness and detail. Well...... this tv blows it's socks off and it's not even 1080p!!! The detail is incredible. Please do it justice by playing a blu-ray disc or next gen console game on this tv. Don't judge it by running an SD channels on it. (Btw, there is a built in freeview tuner, but I haven't had a chance to use it).

The sound is excellent. The two speakers below the set provide very clear sound. It's crisp when required, but also has bass. I DO recomment investing in a home theatre system though, if you're going to use this tv in a living room. I might as well just put it out there that this tv has virtual dolby surround sound which kind of mimics the effect of an actual surround sound system.

The finish of the tv is very sexy. Although it's not the greatest looking tv on the market (I love panasonic's styling), it has a very nice piano black finish, which complements the PS3. This shiny black is now the norm for tvs, as silver is not out of date. It'll look good in any living room. It's not the thinnest tv set, but mounted on a wall it looks very good.

To conclude, this is an excellent tv for the price. You won't get a better tv, made by a better brand for cheaper than this. Trust sony, they know their stuff. There's no other manufacturer I buy things this expensive from. Couple with the fact that you get a 3 yr extended warranty, YOU CANNOT GO WRONG.

To the people that are giving this set 3 stars for finding out that it's not 1080p... please stop. It's hasn't been claimed that it is 1080p. Look at the description, which clearly states "1366x768".... which means 720p. There is an AUSTRAILIAN sony tv of the same model number (KDL-32V4000) which is 1080p, but this ain't it.

  3.  My Expectations Were TOO High

    Posted:

As the review title says, I think I was expecting a bit too much from my first Force FX lightsaber.
When I saw the postman bringing this up the drive, I felt a chill go up my spine. I knew my lightsaber was here and that I was about to be taken back in time.
I'd already read that this lightsaber wasn't as bright as the others but I didn't think much of it.
I had some batteries lying around the house which I was pretty sure were new. I plonked them in and turned the switch on the hilt on. (The hilt by the way is beautiful - a little bigger than the "real" thing, but BEAUTIFUL).
I was greeted by the power up sound, which sounded very authentic. The blade however, was very dim in normal light conditions - i.e. it's not red, more like a pinkish colour. I took it into the dark, yet it still wasn't as bright as I expected. Thinking it was the old batteries, I went out and bought the most expensive Duracells I could find.... Still I was not satisfied.
While I love this lightsaber very much, I feel that I'll probably be purchasing the Obi-Wan or Luke version very soon, as I've read that they're very bright even in normal light conditions.

In conclusion: A very well made lightsaber with oodles of attention to detail. Nicely presented in a sexy box with a display stand (although you can't put the lightsaber on it dead centre, becuase the hilt is too heavy).
I guarntee you'll be swinging it around like a Sith Lord on drugs, but I also guarantee you'll be doing it more so in the dark.
